Get down Two opposing teams from the Londesboro men’s Slo-pitch league faced off against each other at this weekend’s tournament in Londesboro. Oneof the members of the Cougars gives it his all to reach first base. The Cougars defeated the Lazers and went on to play the final game against the Bly th Inn team. 12 teams at Londesboro tourney Blyth Inn wins four straight to capture tournament ‘Gold’ Blyth Inn ball team won the Hullett Recreation Slo-pitch tour­ nament held in Londesboro this past weekend. They defeated the Brewcrew and Cougars before coming up against the Clinton Cardinals. In an extra inning game the Blyth Inn won 7-6 and went on to face the Brodhagen Bandits and win 15-5. The silver championship was won by the Blyth Classics as they downed the Cougars 13-7. The Bronze championship was won by the Winthrop Titans with a close 12-11 win over the Bluecrew. Congratulations goes to the M.V.P. of all three games. In the gold game Mike Smith of Brodhagen, for the silver game Dean Dawrie of the Classics and in the Bronze game Dave Hulley of the Titans. The Recreation Committee would like to thank all the teams that participated in the tournament Courses offered at Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology is again offering courses in the Brussels area. In its efforts to bring education to the people of the community the Brussels Conestoga College Con­ tact Committee has planned sever­ al course offerings for the fall. These will be held at the Brussels Public School. Courses to be offer­ ed include: Commodore 64 Work­ shop on Thursdays for 10 weeks; beginning September 28; Calli­ graphy beginning on September 25 for 10 weeks; Introduction to Taoist Tai Chi starting Tuesday, Septem­ ber 26 and running for eight weeks; Cake Decorating on Wednesdays for eight weeks starting September 27; Effective Speaking commenc- namely: Bootleggers, Lazers, Brewcrew, Cougar, and Blewcrew from the Londesboro League; Blyth Inn, Classics and 8th Liners from the Blyth League; Brodhagen Ban­ dits and Winthrop Titans from Winthrop league; along with the Cardinals from the Seaforth League and Molesworth Mets from Palm­ erston. The recreation committee would like to say a very special thank you to all the businesses and local people for all donations given towards the cost of putting on the tournament. The proceeds from this tournament will be used for minor sports in the township. A special thanks to the coaches and individuals that helped out in the bar and scorekeeping. Espe­ cially to Marsha Szusz, Donald McGregor, Mark Kennedy, Robert Radford and Dennis Wilts for all the hours of work before and during the tournament. Early registration enables the committee to establish a class that might otherwise be cancelled. The contact committee in Brussels in­ cludes Miriam Zehr, Betty Graber, Ruth Sauve, Lynn Betts. Betty Cardiff and Hank Ten Pas. The Blyth Inn Slo-pitch team competed in the Hullett Recrea­ tion tournament in Londesboro this past weekend. The “Inn” record­ ed four straight victories to capture the “Gold” championship. In the preliminary rounds the Blyth Inn used a heavy hitting attack to defeat Londesboro Brew Crew 21 to 5 and the Clinton Cougars 23 to 4. These two victories put the Inn in the ‘A’ semi-final against the Clinton Car­ dinals. The two teams were very evenly matched and after the regulation seven innings the score Sports Brussels Bowling Club holds final tournament The Brussels Bowling Club held their Carter Trophy Tournament Thursday, Aug. 24. All 10 greens were filled. The Frank Carter trophy was presented by President Jean Bewley to Don Haines and his wife from Clinton, they had three wins and 47 with overplus of 11. Coming second was Jack Mc­ Donald of Lucknow with three wins and 46. Third was Jack Fisher, Lucknow, three wins and 44. In the eighth inning Gary Court­ ney singled and scored all the way from first base on Andy Lubber’s two-out double to give the Inn a 7 to 6 victory. The ‘A’ final found the Inn up against the Brodhagen Bandits. Both teams had scored a lot of runs throughout the tournament and most people expected the game to be a high scoring slugfest. However, as in the past Barney Stewart’s, strong pitching perfor­ mance was supported by outstand­ ing defence. Meanwhile the Inn’s stock; sixth, Les Douglas, Brussels; seventh, Rae Buchanan, Atwood; eighth, Len Brubacher, Elmira; ninth, Frank Nutall, London; tenth, George Michie, Brussels; eleventh, Harris Bell, Elora. Consolation went to Reg. Robin­ son, Mitchell. The weather was perfect for this tournament. No too hot, not too cold. This is the last tournament for the season but the club members hope there will be nice weather for their Monday and Thursday even­ ing bowling for several weeks yet. bats went to work scoring one run in the first inning, four in the third, seven in the fifth and home runs by John Stewart and Pat Cronin and in the seventh gave the Blyth Inn a 15 to 5 victory and the championship.
