Phone 526-75M) Knox SS begins Sept. 10 Auburn Squirt boys finish season on top Rev. Dave Snihur conducted the morning service at Knox United Church. There was an early hymn­ sing. Mrs. Gordon Gross was organist. The flowers in the sanc­ tuary were from the funeral of the late Norman McDowell. Introit was “Holy, Holy, Holy” followed by the call to worship read alternately. “When Morning Guilds The Skies” was sung followed by the prayer of approach and the Lord’s Prayer said in unison. The child­ ren’s song was “They that wait Upon the Lord”. Haggitts host WMS meeting The monthly meeting of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Society was held in the evening at the home of Marian Haggitt. The president Martha Daer pre­ sided and gave the call to worship. She welcomed all present. The devotional period was in charge of Lillian Letherland. The scripture Community extends sympathy to McDowells Sympathy is extended to the McDowell family, relatives and friends on the death of Norman McDowell who passed away on Saturday, August 19 at Wingham and District Hospital. Mrs. Annie Robertson of Mea- Rev, Snihur tells story of love Rev. Dave Snihur conducted the morning service at Knox United Church, August 20 and Nancy Parker was organist. The service began with singing “The Light of the World is Jesus” followed by the Call to Worship, read alternate­ ly. The hymn “Praise Him, Praise Him” was sung followed by Prayer of Approach. Rev. Snihur gave the announce­ ments. The children’s song was “This Little Light” and Rev. Snihur told the story on Love. The hymn, “Tell the Stories of Jesus” was sung. Rev. Snihur read scrip­ tures from Exodus and John. The prayer chorus was sung: “Silently, Now I wait for Thee”. Rev. Snihur’s sermon was entitled “I am the Light of the World: (Part I - The ‘I Am’ sayings of Jesus)”. The offering was received by Larry Plaetzer and Murray Rollinson and dedicated with the offeratory re- ponse, “We give Thee but Thine own” sung. The hymn “How firm a Foundation” was sung and Rev. The scriptures from Isaiah were read by Rev. Snihur followed by the prayer chorus “Silently Now 1 Wait For Thee”. Rev. The Auburn Squirt Inter Town­ ship boys finished the year on a winning note so they won the “A” championship at the year-end tour­ nament held in Varna on the weekend. The boys played their first game Friday night against Colbome with some good defensive plays and offensive bats. The Auburn boys came away with a 28 to 6 victory. On Saturday, facing the possi- bility of playing three games the boys came out strong defeating Goderich Township #2, 19 to 2. This victory moved the team into the semi-final round against Hul- lett Township (Londesboro). Au­ burn was victorious with a score of 20 to 8 moving the Auburn team to the “A” finals against Bayfield. Again the Auburn boys were successful with a 19 to 3 win. The team members each received championship crests and the Inter Township championship trophy ending an almost perfect year losing only one game by forfeit. The members of the team in­ clude Eric Andrew, Dennis Black, Marc Bricker, Jeff Bundly, Ryan Chamney, Jonathon Collins, Cory Baynton, Chris Curran, Shawn Hakkers, Benji Hakkers, Mike McNee, Chris Maize, Shane Web- People Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Wetherall of Victoria, B.C. spent a few days visiting Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lawlor, RR 3, Auburn. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hallam returned home last week from vacationing at Point Farm Provin­ cial Park. ster and Jason Rutledge. The team would like to thank their coaches Glen Webster, Terry Rutledge and George Collins for their efforts this season. The Auburn Squirt boys along with the Auburn Squirt girls team and the Londesboro Squirt boys are travelling to the Dome next week to see the Blue Jays play Chicago White Sox. This will bring their season to a very enjoyable end.
