Travel costs, politics send Bulls to Jr. C league The Brussels Bulls Junior Hoc key Club took another step in their team history when they were accepted into the Western Jr. C. League. Citing a major increase in travell ing and behind the scenes dealing between certain clubs in the Jr. D loop the Bulls’ executive, who have talked of going ‘C’ the last two years, decided to make the change in leagues and classification. The majority of Junior D teams in Ontario are based in the London Sports Brussels Midgets lose squeaker Too late It would appear that this young Walton player was just a little late getting to first base, as the Belgrave first baseman caught the ball. Walton team did, however, defeat the Belgrave team 10 to 9. Walton, Listowel win at Mite tournament area and it was becoming increas ingly obvious to the northern teams who was running the league. For example all league meetings were held in Belmont because it was central for most teams. As well the Bulls travelling costs were increas ing. Last season Brussels played in a group with Seaforth, Mitchell, Exeter, Lucan, Wellesley and Tavi stock. A motion was defeated that would have seen Lucan, Exeter and possibly Mitchell join the London conference while Brussels, Sea forth, Wellesley and Tavistock would have joined Ayr, Paris, Burford, Delhi, Langton and Ohsweken. Instead the southern teams ma jority voted in a partial interlocking schedule and the Bulls were forced to add Lambeth, Mt. Brydges and Alvinston to their schedule. Lam beth who have been in the league two years, claiming two all-Ontario Championships including an unde feated playoff season, were given their choice on which division they would like to play in. Brussels Midgets came up on the short end of a pitcher’s duel to drop the first game of their WOAA Major Midget Softball Playoff ser ies with Shakespeare Friday. Andrew McCutcheon pitched nine strong innings, of four hit ball and struck out 11 for Brussels but unfortunately Tim Yantzi was even stingier for Shakespeare. Yantzi allowed only two hits and struck out 15 as he held Brussels scoreless in the 2-0 game. A home run in the eighth inning helped Shakespeare’s cause. It was the first game of a best of three series. Man charged in Walton incident An altercation between two Wal ton residents on Saturday after noon resulted in one charge of aggravated assault. Mr. Morley Shepherd has been charged following a property dis pute during which Mr. Robert Walker received minor injuries from a chain saw wielded by Mr. Walker, an OPP spokesperson said. The incident is still under inves tigation by the Wingham police. £ CLASSIFIED ADS^J P PAYOFF! The folding of the Pt. Elgin Bears had reduced the midwestern Jr. C. League to Wingham, Goder ich, Mt. Forest, and Hanover with Walkerton a question mark. Rum our was the league was trying to talk Grand Valley and/or Stayner to come into their grouping for a viable league. The Bulls executive made a phone call last Monday night about possible entry into the league. Tuesday night the Jr. C. teams held an informal meeting and last Thursday the Bulls were accepted along with Grand Valley. Normally a change in classification must be proposed to the OHA in April but with the juniors reputa tion of running a solid organization plus the possible demise of a hockey league the OHA gave their blessing to move without a formal application.
