Blyth Inn wins tournament the and the Tigers tournament on this weekend This weekend will find Brussels Intermediate Tigers the Optimist Club hosting annual Fastball Tournament. Friday night will find the Walton Brewers and the Fullarton A’s kicking the tournament off at 7:30 p.m. the Camlachie Jrs. and the host team Brussels Tigers will play at 9 p.m. Saturday will find the teams of Belmore Stingers and Mitchell Gladiators at 9 a.m.; Ingersoll Jrs. and Brussels Jrs. at 10:30 a.m. Clifford 4 Aces and Cambridge Braves at 12 noon; Shakespeare Colts and Kitchener Protel at 1:30 p.m.; Chesley Texaco’s and Kitch ener Caseys at 3 p.m. and Goderich and Sebringville Royals at 4:30 16 teams play in Londesboro tournament Teams from Blyth and Lucknow took home championships from the Londesboro Slo-pitch tournament on the weekend. Sixteen teams took part in the tournament which began Thursday night. Games were played in Auburn as well as Londesboro. Blyth Inn defeated Goderich Grizzlies 9-3 for the A champion ship Sunday afternoon. Lucknow Red Demons defeated Londesboro Bootleggers 12-10 to take the “B” crown. Proceeds from the tournament will go to improvements at ball diamonds in Hullett township. Brussels midgets keep on winning The Brussels Midget Boys tinued their winning ways week with two consecutive against Ripley and Cargill. On July 23, Brussels went to Cargill and proceeded to bat five more runs home than their opposi tion making the final score, 9 to 4. Andrew McCutcheon, struck 12 players out for Brussels. Then, Mike Alexander and Scott Johnston hit homers for Brussels. The Brussels boys really let Ripley have it when they came to the Brussels diamond on July 26. Ripley could only manage to get three runs home against the mar auding Brussels boys who swung 10 boys home. Andrew McCutcheon pitched this game as well for the Brussels team and threw 9 strikeouts. p.m. The teams will continue to play throughout the weekend with the Home runs win game for Blyth The Atwood Squirt Boys got creamed when they visited Blyth on July 24 after five Blyth squirts hit homers to make the score 16 to 2. The six inning game was punctu ated by consistent ball slamming. In the first inning, Brian McNichol and Mike Laffin got homers to give the boys two runs. Brian McNichol Blyth branch 420 captures win in Legion tournament Blyth Branch 420 of the Royal Canadian Legion captured the ‘A’ Division in the Legion’s Co-ed Slo-pitch tournament held in Luck now. Blyth won all three games de feating Goderich 13 to 7, Lucknow 14 to 2 and Exeter 15 to 0. The team donated their winning prize money to the Blyth Legion to be Used for a worthy cause. wins The Blyth Inn Slo-pitch team captured the ‘A’ Division Cham pionship at the Londesboro Slo pitch Tournament this past week end. In the team’s first game they defeated Wingham Stanley Selects 21 - 5. Kevin Coultes, Pat Cronin and Steve Howson led the hitters with four runs batted in each. The Inn played Goderich Culli- gans in their next game and trailed early. However, five runs in the fifth inning and six runs in the sixth inning enabled the Inn to take a 12 to 8 victory. Pat Cronin and Wayne McDougall homered for the Inn. In the semi-final the Inn defeated the Seaforth Titans 12 to 3. The final was played between the Inn and Goderich Grizzlies. Strong defence by both teams kept the game scoreless until the fourth inning when the Inn erupted for eight runs and eventually won the game 9 to 3 and the championship.
