Locals enjoy weekend guests A near capacity congregation of members from Knox United, Cal­ vin-Brick and neighbouring church­ es were greeted by Mis. Gordon Bosman and Mrs. Roy Dawson at the door as they gathered at Knox United Church, Belgrave, Wed­ nesday, July 5 at 8 p.m. for the Induction of the Rev. Peter Tucker as minister of the Belgrave, Calvin- Brick pastoral charge. An organ-piano prelude of sacred numbers was presented by Mrs. George Procter, organist of Belgrave Church and Mrs. George McGee pianist, Calvin-Brick Church. Choir members from both churches combined to sing their anthem “Lead Me Saviour,” the hymns: Praise to the Lord, the Almighty”, “Pour out Thy Spirit”, “The Parting Hymn of Praise” and in conclusion “The Gaelic Benedic­ tion”, with organ accompaniment. Mrs. Joel Arkell, Belgrave con­ tributed a pleasing solo, “I Love Thee”, with Mrs. George Procter accompanist. A service compiled for the Induc­ tion of a minister in Huron-Perth Presbytery was followed through­ out. Presiding chairperson was Mrs. Marjory Mallory, Lay repre­ sentative Trinity Church Listowel. The sermon was by Rev. Cecil Wittich, Listowel; Induction Pre­ siding Officer was Rev. R. Hawley, chairman of Presbytery, Exeter, assisted by Rev. William Jones, Kirkton. The scripture from Ephe­ sians 4: 1-16 was read by Mrs. Muriel Coultes, chairperson-elect for Huron-Perth Presbytery. Rev. Donald Beck, Fordwich, chairper­ son of Huron-Perth Pastoral com­ mittee also took part. Rev. Cecil Wittich based the remarks for his message on the “Church”. God says “I have chosen you; you have not chosen Me” I Peter: 2, 9, reads “Ye are a chosen generation a royal priest­ hood; an holy nation; a peculiar people”. Mr. Wittich related the story of a small child, at a large fair, who strayed from her mother and father. The frantic parents searched until the little one, una­ ware of the consternation was found and restored to loving arms. So it is with us we stray; but our Master brings us back to His fold. Each of us is a priest, or in Biblical terms - a bridge; each is a witness for the Church. Following the Induction cere­ mony of Rev. Peter Tucker by Rev. R. Hawley the newly inducted minister was welcomed into the midst by a hearty handclasp from 23 members of the Presbytery. Offertory stewards were Cathy Dow, Paul Cook, Mike Cottrill and David Beecroft. At the conclusion of the formali­ ties Rev. Tucker was ushered to the pulpit by Rev. R. Hawley. The inducted minister expressed his pleasure in having been chosen, while still residing in Wales, as * pastor of the charge. He then voiced his intention to familiarize himself with all members through informal visits. Members spent an hour learning about plants such as shrubs, and bushes and how to plant trees and other types of landscaping materials. They also saw many differentt types of birds around certain plants and saw five blue eggs in a nest. extended greetings to Rev. Tucker and his family on behalf of both churches in the charge. Further expressions of pleasure in making his acquaintance were stated by Ivan Dow, Clerk of Calvin-Brick Session; Gordon Bosman, Clerk of Belgrave Session; Mrs. Joan Peter­ son, President of Calvin-Brick U.C.W.; Mrs. Wilma Higgins, President of Belgrave U.C.W.; Donald Dow, Superintendent Cal­ vin-Brick Sunday School; Mrs. Ruth Gordon, Superintendent Bel­ grave Sunday School; Mrs. Louise Bosman, chairperson of Belgrave Board of Stewards; Mrs. Mabel Wheeler, Recording Steward for the Official Board of the charge. Glen Van Camp, Warden, Trinity Anglican Church, Belgrave and Garner Nicholson, Clerk of Session, Knox Presbyterian Church, Bel­ grave. Mr. Nicholson then intro­ duced the recently-inducted Belg­ rave, Presbyterian minister, Rev. Carolyn McAvoy. Rev. Donald Beck brought thanks to the charge and Presbytery. Rev. Tucker replied briefly as he expressed his appreciation to Rev- John and Kay Roberts for their hospitality; his hope that all may work together in unity; his grati­ tude to the Committee members of Presbytery and the Pastoral Com­ mittees of the charge. The Benedic­ tion was pronounced by Rev. Tucker. The group then retired to the school room for refreshments and a social period. He has accepted an Athletic Scholarship from Cornell versity in Ithaca, New where he plans to study engineering and play on varsity hockey team. 2. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Garner Nicholson the week­ end of July 2 were Mr. and Mrs. Glyn Wide, Kimberly, Jennifer, and Trevor Hamilton; Mr. and Mrs. Ron Nicholson and Sherri of Barrie visited at the same home. Mr. and Mrs. Don Vincent, Patrick, Aaron and Angela of Windsor spent the weekend of July son said the grace and all enjoyed a smorgasbord supper. After supper the president held a short business meeting. Minutes of 1988 reunion were read by the secretary-treasurer Mrs. Irlma Ed­ gar.
