Phone 526-7589 Knox United honours bride-to-be Super Scout Michael Schneider of Auburn holds up the Scouting certificate he received on June 24 at the Wesley Willis United Church in Clinton. Top Scout awarded The highest award a Scout can achieve was presented to Michael Schneider of Auburn at a Scout’s Award ceremony on June 24 at the Wesley-Willis United Church in Clinton. Michael was recommended for the award by Janet Cameron, the Huron District Commissioner. In order to be eligible for the award, a Scout has to be recommended, completed 50 hours of volunteer work to his community and completed a number of badges at the gold level, which is the highest level of achievement. Michael also won a knife for being the best Scout. This award is given to the Scout who has the least points. Scouts have an inspection every week and are given demerit points if anything is found wrong. Michael has been in Scouts for three years, in Beavers for three years and Cubs for three years. He is 13 and just graduated from Hullett Central Public School. Knox United Church parlours were beautifully decorated on Mon­ day, June 26 for a shower for Miss Debbie Cunningham. She has been a Sunday School teacher there and will be sadly missed. The master of ceremonies for the evening was Mrs. Lloyd Penfound who welcomed everyone. Mrs. G. Gross then led a very appropriate sing-song. This was followed by a “Matrimonial Recipe” by Mrs. R. Daer. A hobby contest was given by Mrs. G. McClinchey to every­ one’s amusement. Miss Anita Gross then gave an excellent reading. Mrs. R. Archambault and Mrs. D. Bean gave a skit “Getting a Marriage License” and an up-to- date contest which were thoroughly enjoyed. Mrs. B. Thomson and sons closed the program with playing and singing musical num­ bers. Mrs. Penfound called the bride- to-be, her mother, Mrs. T. Cunn­ ingham and the groom’s mother, Mrs. Coates, to the decorated platform. Mrs. L. Archambault, Mrs. Keith Lapp and Mrs. Joe Verwey came forward and pinned rose corsages on the ladies. Mrs. S. Ball pinned one on the bride’s grandmother, Mrs. E. Grigg of Clinton. Mrs. E. Lapp read the address and the gifts were brought Ball's Cemetery plans 63rd memorial service The 63rd memorial service of Balls Cemetery will be held on Sunday, July 9 at 3 p.m. The service is in charge of Rev. James Carne of the Auburn Missionary Church forward. Miss B. Gross and Miss S. Gross took care of the gifts and Miss N. Penfound decorated an apron. Grace was sung and a sumptuous lunch served by the Walkerburn Club ladies. Church hosts bridal shower On Monday evening, June 19 the Sunday School room of Knox United Church was tastefully de­ corated with an archway, balloons and cut flowers for a community shower for bride-elect Lori Millian. The guest book was in charge of Tammy Middlecamp and Tracy Millian. The program consisted of a skit by Joyce Bean and Nancy Park, based on a T.V. show called “Name That Tune’’. Anita Gross gave a reading entitled “Lavinsky at Lori’s wedding’’. Karen Bakker and Nicole Middlecamp conducted a contest called “Guess the famous person”. Several volunteers were chosen by Bernice Gross to act out the highlights from the bride-to-be’s past. Lori, her mother Irene Millian and the groom’s mother Lillian Hallam were escorted to the front and corsages were pinned on them by Jean Plaetzer, aunt of the bride. An address of congratulations and best wishes was read by Joyce Bean and many lovely gifts were presented by Karen, Tracy and Shannon Millian, Nicole Middle­ camp and Karen Bakker. An apron, decorated with bows by Anita Gross, was given the bride elect. Lori thanked everyone who had assisted in anyway with the shower and also the lovely gifts. “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and Grace were sung with Marjorie McDougall at the piano. A deli­ cious lunch was served’ by Lois Haines and her committee.
