East Wawanosh Public School Valedictory address Memories of East Wawanosh recalled in speech CHERYL CAMPBELL East Wawanosh BY CHERYL CAMPBELL I would like to welcome the teachers, parents and special guests on behalf of the 1988-1989 grade 8 graduating class. Tonight marks a very important milestone for each graduate here. The first phase of our education has just been completed and with eagerness and yet some reluc tance we are about to enter phase two at F. E. Madill. What the future holds we do not know but the past has given us many memories of our years at East Wawanosh. One common me mory was that first ride on the big yellow bus. It was a rather frightening experience (but I guess we will go through it again when we have to get on the high school bus for the first time.) Thank goodness we were gree ted by Mrs. Brydges’ smiling face when we arrived at school. Our class made such a good impres sion on Mrs. Brydges that she decided to move on to Grade 1 with us. Mrs. Bosman took over in Grade 2 and then decided we should be sent to Mrs. Daer for Grade 3 and some really serious work. Here we began our journey to become bilingual. Grade 4 saw the first split in our class. Some stayed in the Junior wing under the iron hand of Mr. Medd while the rest moved over to the senior wing with Mr. Stevenson and Mr. The 1989 Grade Eight graduates from East Wawanosh Public School are: (front row, left to right) Anita Massey, Trina Leishman, Janette Ward, Trisha Taylor, Bev Buchanon, Jennifer Elston, Cheryl Campbell, Natasha Muscheid; (back row, left to right), Mike Golley, Mark Robinson, Chris Jamieson, Rick Wattam, Rob Johnston, Brad Robinson and Kyle Moran. Higgins. We didn’t have far to go to the office if trouble arose! Grade 5 brought us together again with Mr. Stevenson and Madame Turcotte. Here we learned that Madame did not approve of eye-rolling. Grade 6 brought more changes. We had a new principal in the person of Mr. Scott and Mr. Harrison transferring from Turn berry became our teacher for the following two years. Also in Grade 7 we began to broaden our education by taking Industrial Arts and Family Studies at the high school. At last we began Grade 8, where we had to break in two new teachers, Mr. Bartlett and Mrs. Dodds. Mrs. Dodds tried to make us see our self worth by attempting to stamp out killer statements. Graduates, as we leave East Wawanosh, we must remember that education is very important. Without it our goals will never be achieved. I would like to thank our parents and teachers who stood behind us and offered support to us (even if they didn’t agree, with us.) To all the graduates I wish you continued success in all that you attempt. May we always be proud to say we are graduates of E.W.P.S.! See you at Madill!
