Valedictory address
Speaker remembers the teachers who shaped students
BY PRISKA MENZI
We were all excited as we
entered Mrs. Richmond’s kinder
garten class for the very first
time. It didn’t take long for us all
to make friends. As the days went
on Mrs. Richmond taught us the
Alphabet and showed us how to
print our names. Mrs. Richmond
taught us things that we will
always need to know.
Soon we were in grade one with
Miss McKillop: did she ever have
a task to do, teaching us how to
read, knowing the studious peo
ple that we are. Thanks to her we
are now all terrific readers.
As grade two came along Mrs.
Martin was teaching us our
Phonics and math skills. We came
out of grade 2 pronouncing our
words a lot better, thanks to Mrs.
Martin’s phonic skills.
Grade three was getting more
difficult. Mr. Livermore was busy
teaching us Social Studies and
grammar along with our favourite
subject, phys. ed. Mr. Colquhoun
was teaching us math and science
along with writing. Unfortunately
we all knew that wasn’t the last
we’d see of him.
Grade four was quite fun. We
all enjoyed Mr. Perrie’s nature
hikes through the woods, and his
science classes. I don’t think we

have ever learned so much about
science as we did with Mr. Perrie.
We all enjoyed it.
In grade five we met up with
Mr. Livermore again since he was
now teaching grade five. Phys,
ed. was still our favourite subject.
We also had Mr. Colquhoun
again for math class.
Both Mrs. Gillies and Mrs.
Whitmore were our teachers for
grade six. Thanks to Mrs. Gillies
as the school’s librarian, she
showed us a lot of library skills.
As the music teacher Mrs. Whit
more was busy turning us all into
wonderful singers.
Soon grade seven came along.
What we looked forward to the
most was our journey to Quebec
and Ottawa in June. Meanwhile
Mr. Garland was preparing us for
grade eight, the year we had been
waiting for, so long.
Grade eight with Mr. Colqu
houn was finally here. He tried to
make historians out of us all, but
mind you it didn’t work for
everybody. With Mr. Colquhoun
being the music teacher of grades
7 and 8 we also had quite a bit of
music. Mr. Colquhoun has had to
