PAGE 16. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 28, 1989. Valedictory address Speaker thanks parents, principals, teachers BY MARK LIVERMORE It seems like only yesterday that each one of us, a shy little five year old clutching our brand new lunch boxes, waiting at the road to board the big yellow school bus that would take us to our first day at Hullett Central. A lot of things have happened since that September morning in 1980. There have been friend ships and fights, laughter and tears, interesting projects and boring lectures, but through it all we have survived. Although this is a very happy occasion there is something sad about it too. For it will be the last time that we are all together at Hullett. Mr. Jewitt, teachers, parents, classmates and guests. I have been chosen to speak to you tonight on behalf of the 1988/89 graduating class, and I am very proud and honoured to do so. Most of us have attended Hullett Central all of our school days. There were students who started with us but have left for other areas. Some of these were, Chris MacDonald, Sarah Wright, Quinn Ross, Reanne McDonald, Luanne MARK LIVERMORE Hullett Central The 1989 Grade Eight Graduates from Hullett Central School are: (front row, left to right), Angela Horbanuik, Stacey Riley, Lisa McCormick, AlisonChamney, Lisa Wray, Susan Dobie, Sharon Bergsma, Annette Vincent, Sheri Oliver, Cheri Taylor; (middlerow, lefttoright), Kelly Bosman, RobertTait, Stephen DeWolfe, Mark Livermore, Andrew Luna, Shawn Rutledge, Tony Vanderlei, Michael Schneider, Kevin Shillinglaw, Jim Scott, Jonathon Potter, (back row, left to right), Scott Shaddick, Jeffrey Hadenko, Danny Hoggart, Wade Vander- Wall, Tom Knott, Tyler Craig, Lawrence Bergsma, Jamie Dalton, Chris Kennedy, and Richard Hummel. Stevenson, and Graham Adams. Some joined us as we progress ed through the grades. Tonight marks the end of our elementary school years, but it also is the beginning of our high school education. There are many people who have helped us get this far and who have contributed to our education. I would like to mention a few of them. First our Parents, because without them, we would not be here. They have given us life, love and encouragement. They have scolded us, and sup ported us when we needed it. To them we say Thank You! Secondly, Principals. When we began kindergarten, Mr. Mac- Lennan was our principal. He was transferred to Goderich when we finished grade 5 and Mr. Jewitt became our new principal. Mr. MacLennan probably never got to know us as well as Mr. Jewitt has. He has had to deal with us under many circumstances and we thank him for his skill, know ledge, and understanding in deal ing with us both individually and as a group. Thank you Mr. Jewitt. Lastly, but by no means leastly, are the many teachers who have guided us through the past nine years. Our kindergarten teacher was Mrs. Walters, who started us on the road to learning. Our group was split for grade 1, half of us, including me, had Mrs. Bosman for a teacher, while the other half including Kelly had my thorn, Mrs. Livermore. Our tea cher in Grade two was Mrs. Hoemig and I can remember the fun we had with our grade 8 reading partners. I also seem to remember having my first experi ence of writing lines. In Grade three, Miss Bennett was our teacher. That was the year we began our French instruction and our year end trip was to Niagara Falls. In grade four we were a very lucky group to have had three good teachers, Mrs. Bos man again, Mr. Griffen and Mrs. Laura Scott. The highlights of that year were making ginger bread houses for Christmas and going to. the Metro Toronto Zoo, in June. When we hit grade five we thought we had really grown up. We were on the senior side. Our teacher was Mrs. Cook. She must have really liked us that year because she was our teacher in grade six. In Grade six we had the VIP course for the first time and learned a lot about Values, Influences and Peers from Con stable Marshall. Last year we were in grade 7 with Mr. Talbot as our teacher. The year end trip was to Canada’s Wonderland and to a Blue Jay game. The Blue Jays won, but we Yankee fans knew it would have been a different result if the Yankees had played instead. We were all looking forward to our final year at Hullett as the Big Guys. We’ve had a great year in grade 8. Our Senior Citizens Day, our operetta, our successful school teams and of course the graduation trip to Toronto, are all wonderful memories of grade 8.
