The Citizen, 1989-06-28, Page 15THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 28, 1989. PAGE 15. Blytb Public Scbool^~ ~~~ Valedictory address School years compared to a tree by speaker HEIDI SCRIMGEOUR Blyth Public BY HEIDI SCRIMGEOUR Mr. Black, teachers, students and guests When I think of my nine years in Public School and my years to come in High School and Univer sity, I think of a tree. The roots of a tree are like our parents. They are what made us what we are today. They were there when we said our first words and when we took our first steps and when we went to school for our first day. They were the ones who held our hand and stayed with us until we were ready to be in a room full of unfamiliar faces. The roots of a tree are also like teachers. They are the ones who feed us a lot of information and get us ready for the next step in our lives. As I move up the tree I come to the trunk and this is where public school comes in. In public school we met new friends and we learned new things such as adding, subtracting, reading; and in our earlier yeare we learned to eat crayons and glue. Looking back I can remember a few things that happened in those nine years. Graduation ceremonies for Blyth Public School were held June 22 Caldwell; (back row), Conrad Bos, Dawn Gross, Sarah Allan, at Blyth United Church. The graduates include: (front row, left to Heidi Scrimgeour, Michael McNichol, Kevin Ansley, Craig right), Nikki Snell, Chrystal Cucksey, Danielle McDougall, Roulston, Jason Elliott, Chris Mason and Principal Bill Black. Michelle Nesbit, Andrea Henry, Erin Bolger, Karin Lee, Chris Grade 3 we were introduced to French and it was also the year we had to start writing speeches. As we moved on to Grade 4 we became seniors and that meant we went from little people to bie people. Things changed during Grade 4. We had a change in recess and now we were expected to act more mature which was definitely a challenege for some of us. In Grade 5 we had Mrs. Hulley and this was the year we became “lambsie daisies”. In Grade 6 Mr. Yeats was our teacher, he turned out to be a lot of fun because we could always get him off topic. Grade 7 soon passed and before we knew it we were in Grade 8.1 think this year was the most fun for us because we got to go to Ottawa. I still can’t believe Mr. Black was actually crazy enough to take us, but I guess he survived. As I move up the tree, I come to the branches which will be high school because some of us are going in different directions. Go ing further up the tree are twigs, which will be university. To my fellow classmates I have a bit of advice to offer. ‘‘Set a goal for yourself and be sure to achieve it!” I would like to thank all my teachers and my class mates but I would especially like to thank my parents for they were always there for me. To end my speech, I would like all the grade 8’s to turn to their parents and thank them too. Good luck everyone. ~ LAWRIE 523-4930 DECORATING Blyth SCRIMGEOUR’S FOOD MARKET BLYTH 523-4551 —)Congratulations, Grads!
