Morris Council seeks grant for Belgrave Hall renovations Morris Township Council were advised at their meeting of June 6, that the Belgrave W.I. Community Hall and the Morris Municipal Office can receive 75 per cent renovation funding from the energy grant program. Following a motion from Bert Elliott Council decided to proceed with the program and submit necessary applications. Art Clarke of Maitland Engineering Services in Wingham, has been appointed to proceed with an energy audit for both buildings under the provisions of the Energy Grant criteria. Building permits have been is­ sued to Ross Anderson for a new residence on Parker Drive in Bel­ grave; Carl McLellan for a granary; Donald Coleman for a storage shed; Ken Johnston for a drive shed and Corry Saunders for a green house. Demolition permits were issued to Jim Jutzi for a barn located at Lot 29, 30 on Concession 3 and to Canadian Agra for two silos on Lot 12, Concession 8. Dave Johnson of Johnson Engi­ neering Service in Stratford, open­ ed the tenders for the replacement of the Brown’s Bridge located on 10-11 of Concession 9. There were seven tenders received. The engi­ neer’s estimate was $80,000.00. It was decided that the tender from Reymer Construction Limited of RR 3, Lucan be accepted at the tender bid of $72,000.00. Construc­ tion of Brown’s Bridge is to commence on June 12, 1989, after approval from the engineer and the Ministry of Transportation. The township was informed that a meeting would be held in London on June 16, to review the PRIDE Project scheduled for Belgrave this year. Clerk-treasurer Nancy Michie and Road Superintendent Lloyd Michie were authorized to attend. Council was informed that the recycling bin held 8.7 tons of material when it was shipped. The Township was paid $25.00 per ton which came to a total of $218.25. A by-law was passed increasing the wages of Calvin James the Waste Disposal Site Attendant from $7.00 per hour to $8.00 per hour for the May 1989 hours to be paid this month. Vil Jerva is proposing to buy Ducky’s Repair Shop which is located at Lot 1, Concession 4 of Morris Township. Mr. Jerva hopes to sell cars and gasoline in addition to repairing vehicles. He requested that zoning be established to allow this type of business. Clem McLellan made a motion which was seconded by Bert Elliott that the necessary amendments be prepared to permit the sale of gasoline and car repair and sales at this location. Council agreed but informed Mr. Jerva that he will have to pay a charge of $200 for the zoning amendment. The Ministry of the Environment notified Council of a pesticide spill on Concession 4, Lot 24. The road department graded and covered the spill the following day. Council granted $500 to the Walton Sports Club following a request from. club representative Bill Shortreed. It was decided that the discount will not be allowed for final instalment of taxes which are paid in advance for the year 1989. The Township of Morris do not comply with the request of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Alexander of Belgrave concerning the speed limit in Belgrave and forwarded a letter to the Ministry of Transportation stating this. The Alexanders asked that the speed zone in Belgrave be moved south of Parker Drive and set up as a 60 kilometre an hour zone. Council however, feels that the change should be made after the installation of the new proposed VanCamp subdivision which would move the town south another 600 feet from Parker Drive. Morris Township is forwarding a grant of $25 to the Lung Associa­ tion for the year 1989. Council had no objections to the severance consent application of Doreen Raymond for Park Lot 8 in the village of Brussels and of Lloyd Hutton Real Estate for Lot 42 of Concession 42 in the Township of East Wawanosh. Wayne Riley moved that $1,300 be loaned to the Ontario Home Renewal Program account to pay outstanding bills from loans set up in 1988. This was seconded by Clem McLellan. The motion was carried.
