They enjoy walking up town, sometimes with Max, their toy poodle. They find their Blyth home just right in every respect, and their neighbours very friendly. We trust they will find everyone they meet the same way. Congratulations to Amanda Snell who graduated with honours on June 6 from the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Arts, majoring in History. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McClure for the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. William Roselli from Bramalea, brother of Mrs. McClure. More than 100 people will be seeing the preview performance of “Perils of Persephone” free to night as part of “Village of Blyth Night” at the Blyth Festival. “This is our way of saying thank you to the residents of Blyth who have watched the Festival flourish and grow over its 15-year history,” said Anne Elliott, organizer of the event and a member of the Festi val’s board of directors. Lemonade and treats (donated by Blyth Distributors) will be served on the lawn of Memorial There has been a flurry of home building in the south east section of the village during the last year or two, and especially in recent months. Morris St. south can boast now of an attractive structure, still without finishing touches, but al ready displaying a “For Sale” sign. So far, Hamilton Street has seen the most changes. Instead of vacant lots that one was used to seeing for years, one gazes now on smart-looking homes: K. Hessel- woods, the Szarek’s, Darryl Young- blut’s and Ronnie Ritchie’s are the most recent to be erected. Ronnie has sold his home on Hamilton Street and is on the way to finishing his second home building project on McConnell Street. It appears that Blyth is on the move in the building industry. Faith sermon theme at Blyth Greeters at Blyth United Church Sunday, June 11 were Kathy McNichol and Debbie Root. Ushers were Marlene and Greg Toll, Joan and Catherine Caldwell. Scripture readings were from He brews 11 (1-3) and 1 Corinthians 11 (23-26). Hymns were “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less’’ and “The Church’s One Foundation’’. Special announcements included a notice of a rally at Mitchell United Church June 14, 8 p.m. Dr. Victor Shepherd will be speaking on the topic “Renewal on three fronts”. Also, next Sunday, June 18, Fath er’s Day, there will be a sing-song before the service and special guest speaker will be Rev. Donald Snell, Drayton Valley, Alberta. Following the announcements Harvey Snell gave a Minute for Missions concerning “Youth For To-day”. The sermon was entitled “Faith in Time of Uncertainty”. Rev. Ramirez referred to several different Bible characters who had to take a “leap of faith”. In Hebrews, Sarah, wife of Abraham, at the age of 90, was told she would bear children, and though unbe lieving at first she put her trust and hope in God and it did occur. Mary, Mother of Jesus, chosen to give birth to Jesus, son of God conceived by the Holy Spirit. This was a time when becoming preg nant before marriage was a great sin resulting in possible stoning and death. She relied on her faith saying “let me be a handmaiden of God”. Also, Nicodemus in John Chap. 3 went through a great struggle when Jesus told him “You must be born again”. He could not fully understand how this could happen but Jesus said, “Put your trust in me; that which is born of flesh is flesh, that which is born of spirit is spirit.” The story of Joseph tells how good can come out of evil as a result of Joseph’s faith. Out of a treacherous act on the part of his brothers came the ultimate salva tion of Joseph’s whole family and the people of Egypt. Rev. Ramirez said that we were in times of uncertainty now and that we should be reading scrip tures and praying for help and guidance. The scriptures tell us we have to struggle with our faith and if we trust and hope in God, He will deliver us from this uncertainty. We must keep our faith strong. Send a UNICEF card, Save a child’s life. Following the message, a com munion service was held with the following elders serving: Kathy McNichol, Adeline Campbell, Deb bie Craig, Fred Howson, Lloyd Sippel and Harvey Snell. Hall beginning at 7:30. The free tickets were offered to all residents on their May P.U.C. bill. People could show their PUC bill at the Festival box office and receive two free tickets. The show is a near sellout. Janice Henry, chairman of the Cancer Society canvass for Blyth reports a total of $1,589.47 was raised in the village. We welcome the Bums family into our midst. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Burns and son Terry have purchased the Don Noble resi dence, comer of Mill and Welling ton Streets.
