Blyth Peewees win under pressure BY THE CRACKED BAT The Blyth Pee Wee boys travell ed to Londesboro on May 29 for their first road game. What a great game. That is, until the fifth inning. Both teams played well in the first four innings. A couple of innings saw three up - three down action while other innings provided one or two runs. At the end of the fourth it was tied four all. Then the wheels fell off. When it was Londesboro’s turn to bat, they rallied for 12 runs before the Blyth defence could get the third out. Too many errors accounted for some of Londesboro’s runs, but some good solid hits took the wind out of Blyth’s sails. The final score was 16 to seven. On June 1, Blyth played host to Seaforth. Good hitting and fielding provided the fans with a good game to watch. Pitchers Mike McNichol and Jerrod Button shared eight strike outs, but also walked eight Seaforth batters. The score was tied at the end of the fourth, five all Seaforth tallied one run in the fifth inning, while Blyth’s Jerrod Button and Mike Bromley came across the plate for two runs. In the sixth inning, Seaforth connected for three runs which put Blyth down by two. Time was running out for the Blyth squad, but they rallied for three runs, courtesy of Mike McNichol, Willy Laffin and Brian McNichol. A good hit by Josh Yanchus put him on second. The second inning was a no-run inning for both teams but the Blyth boys really swung the bats in the third inning to bring home twelve runs. From then on it was easy swinging for the Blyth Midgets. Pitchers for Blyth were Barry Diehl who struck out eight oppon ents and Jamie MacDonald who played for the last four innings and struck out five players. a wild pitch and that loaded the bases.
