Phone 523-4360 Seniors dine at Huronview The May meeting of Londesboro Happy Gang Seniors was held at the hall on Wednesday, May 31. It began with a pot luck dinner at 12 o’clock. After dinner President Clara Riley opened the meeting with “O Canada.” She welcomed everyone. Seniors are to go to Huronview on Tuesday, June 6 for dinner at 12:45 p.m. It was voted to give a donation to Hullett Council for use of the hall for the monthly meet­ ings. There will be no June meeting. The next Seniors meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 26. Look for further news closer to meeting time. Five tables of euchre were played. Winners were: ladies’ high, Dora Shobbrook; ladies’ low, Stella Adams; ladies’ lone hands, Bob Thompson, (playing as a lady); men’s high, Audrey Thompson (playing as a man); men’s lone hands, Josephine McGregor (play­ ing as a man); men’s low, Isabelle Scanlon, (playing as a man). Greeters at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, June 4 were Betty and Darlene Hulley. Ushers were Vickie Riley, Denise Hulley, Lyndsey Salverda, and Sharon Bergsma. Flowers on the memorial stand were in loving memory of Tri Duizer placed by the family. The choir sang an anthem. Choir practice will be at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 11. The Board meeting is on Tuesday, June 6 at 8 p.m. Mr. Allan Young transferred his membership from Blyth United Church. Infant Baptism was held. Those baptized were Adam Young, son of Alan and Brenda; Marie Hulley, daughter of Bob and Janet; and Eric Radford, son of Rob and Traci. The Boys Club and Auburn Alter Supper Club will meet on Saturday, June 10 at the Snihurs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Bring topping for Sun­ daes. The sermon topic was “How can 1 know the future”. Mem­ bers of Londesboro W.I. attending were: Marjorie Anderson, Margar­ et Taylor, Lois Elliott, Doris Batkin, Ann Kroesen, Helen Lawson and Margaret Anderson. On Thursday evening the 75th anniversary of Dungannon W.I. was held at Brookside School. Murray Gaunt was the guest speaker. He showed a video of six European countries he visited last year. Miss Lucille White of Toronto visited Beth Knox, Mel and Barb Knox, and Hamm boys of Blyth. Beth and Lucille visited with Miss Hazel Petts of London. Beth now has her first great-grandchild. Huron West WI theme 'Preparing for the 90’s’ The 89th District Annual of Huron West was held on Monday, May 29, at the Benmiller United Church. The theme ‘‘Preparing for the 90’s.” The district president, Mrs. Mar­ garet Taylor opened the day’s session. Mrs. Stella Reaburn of the Tiger Dunlop Branch welcomed the 65 ladies..Mrs. Clare Van Camp, secretary-treasurer read the min­ utes and correspondence. Mrs. Beatrice McEllwain of Goderich Township Branch gave several readings. The years up­ date functions of F.W.I.O. was given by Mrs. Cecil Elliott. Mrs. Jane Muegge of the Rural Organization Specialist gave the years 4H report. There was 500 girls enrolled in past project, ‘‘Working With Wool”. Mrs. Coo­ per reported no resolutions for coming year. The morning session ended with the Benmiller Church Ladies serv­ ing a delicious cold salad plate. Mrs. Len Archambault introduced the head table guests with every­ one replying. The crafts were sold by the Auburn Branch. The afternoon opened with all 10 branches reporting on their special event of the year. The Blyth Branch had a very impressive memoriam service for four members who had passed away in district during the year. Mrs. Taylor introduced the guest speaker, Beth Wilck, Nutrition Consultant of Goderich in ‘‘Healthy Eating”. ‘‘Pennies for Friendship” was given by Dungnanon Branch. Jean Philips of St. Helen’s stirred up the audience with a lively poem, ‘‘Old Model T”, ‘‘The Public Relation Report” was by Mrs. Jacklin. Mrs. Wm. Porter reported on the Tweedsmuir books. Program Co-ordinator Mrs. R. Buchanan gave branches activities for the year. The Institute will be twinning with Nova Scotia this year. A new cookbook for $12 is being sold. Mrs. Marion Dougall installed officers for 1989-90. They are: Past President, Mrs. Marg Taylor; Pre­ sident, Mrs. Mary Hunter; first Vice-President, Mrs. Ross Higgins; second Vice-President, Mrs. Len Archambault; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Clare Van Camp; Public Relations, Mrs. Leonard James; Curator, Mrs. Wm. But councillors felt the close proximity of the* Pannell Kerr MacGillivray office (Listowel with a sub-office in Brussels) made it more accessible and decided to stay with the present auditor. Council­ lors were also concerned about whether there could be problems in changing auditors. Councillor Mary Stretton reminded council that an official of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs had questioned whether ‘‘concern over costs alone is just cause to dismiss an auditor.” Councillor Dave Hastings said he didn’t know what other costs might be involved in changing auditors. Councillor Bruce Hahn said he had checked with the PUC commis­ sioners and they both wanted to s^e the same auditor retained. After the motion to retain the auditor had been passed Reeve Gordon Workman who had earlier excused himself on a conflict of interest returned to his chair and said he wanted it recorded he was opposed to the appointment. ‘‘I think we’re being taken”, he said.
