Auditor
Continued from page 5
was $10,275. The quotes from the
other companies were all less than
that amount with the lowest being
$7,250.
But councillors felt the close
proximity of the* Pannell Kerr
MacGillivray office (Listowel with a
sub-office in Brussels) made it
more accessible and decided to stay
with the present auditor. Council
lors were also concerned about
whether there could be problems in
changing auditors. Councillor Mary
Stretton reminded council that an
official of the Ministry of Municipal
Affairs had questioned whether
‘‘concern over costs alone is just
cause to dismiss an auditor.”
Councillor Dave Hastings said he
didn’t know what other costs might
be involved in changing auditors.
Councillor Bruce Hahn said he
had checked with the PUC commis
sioners and they both wanted to s^e
the same auditor retained.
After the motion to retain the
auditor had been passed Reeve
Gordon Workman who had earlier
excused himself on a conflict of
interest returned to his chair and
said he wanted it recorded he was
opposed to the appointment. ‘‘I
think we’re being taken”, he said.
