Paul competed in the high jump event at the Blyth Public School’s track and field meet last Tuesday. Kevin Ritchie belted out the grand slam with two out. Topped with two more runs in the third inning and three runs in the second inning, the Howson Mills team was in fine form. The Belgrave Diggers attempted a comeback in the fifth inning with four runs but they couldn’t catch up to the home team. The final score was 10 to eight for Howson Mills with the win ending a two-game losing streak. They now stand at one win and two losses. We goofed Oops! In an article printed last week, we incorrectly reported that Jason Gropp had placed third in the triple jump at the Huron-Perth track and field meet in Goderich. Jason actually came in first place. Sorry. BY THE CRACKED BAT May 16 was the opening game for the Blyth Peewees. Their rival team was Monkton who were tough opposition. Infield was very consis tent in picking up any ground balls that came their way and throwing to first base for the out. When Blyth Batters tried going over the heads of the Monkton infield, the outfielders made no mistakes. It wasn’t until the fifth inning that the Blyth Squad rallied for some good hits and scored some runs. Too little, Too late proved fatal for Blyth as they were defeated 26 to 7 by Monkton. May 23 saw Blyth host to Atwood. Pitchers Jerrod Button and Mike McNichoI gave up too many walks to the Atwood Club. I really can’t blame the two “Hurl- ers” for the loss as the defense by Blyth was a little scary, what with ground balls going through the Hard hits score big The Blyth W.O.A.A. Midget Boys blasted the Williamsford team on May 28 with power pitching and hard hitting. The game at Williamsford saw the Blyth boys win 8-5. Pitchers Jamie MacDonald and Barry Diehl kept the boys in the lead with nine strikeouts. The bats swung hard in the third inning to let in three runs and the game was clinched in the seventh inning as the Blyth boys scored three more runs to break the five to five tie in the sixth inning. Bullettes beat Clifford team It was an easy win right from the beginning for the Brussels Bul lettes slo-pitch team who scored 15 runs in the first inning against Clifford. The merciless Bullettes scored six runs in the second inning, eight runs in the third inning and nine runs in the fourth inning to beat the Clifford team 38 to two. Pitcher, Sandy Huether pitched the whole game and threw 10 strikeouts and Pam McLean and Donna Prior hit home runs for the Bullettes. ^FAPM EQUIPMENT UMIFED A PROVEN PERFORMER Featuring *AMBASSADORALFALFA •PICKSEED 2700 CORN •TOUCHDOWN KENTUCKY BLUEGRASS ‘GRASS SEEDS ‘SEED CORN ‘LAWN SEED Call your Pickseed representative today -- Neil Gowing Brussels 887-6292 fielders legs and some of the boys not paying attention led to the 19-14 score. I did notice that there were fewer Blyth players playing against At wood and learned later that coach es Jim and Linda have split then- squad into three groups. Playing two groups of the three at a game certainly must be easier to look after. Members of the Blyth Peewees are: Conrad Bos, Aaron Sauve, Josh Yanchus, Mike McNichoI, Mike Bromley, Jerrod Button, Wil ly Laffin, Craig Roulston, Brian Machan, Jamie Bromley, Patrick and Jamie Hallahan, Rein Van Den Huevel, Paul Hessels, John Brak, Jason Clark, Thomas Schroecker, James McNichoI, Mark Pawitch and Ian Caldwell. Coaches for this year’s Peewees are Jim Button and Linda Brak. KI ONTARIO R « MARCH a OF DIMES POWER WASHER K.E.W. 1000 PSI $6499° SEAFORTH 527-0120
