MEETING The Women’s Institute meeting was held at the Community Hall on Tuesday, May 16. The president Erma Cartwright welcomed all. There were 11 members present and one guest. The meeting opened with the Opening Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. The minutes were read by secretary Kay Lapp and Treasur­ er’s report was given by Erma Cartwright in the absence of Tina Empey. The group is also invited to attend the Tiger Dunlop Institute at Carlow Hall on May 25, the topic being Horticulture with a guest speaker. There will be a quilt show at the museum in Goderich. Quilts are to be in by July 11 and will be on display from August 4 to Septem­ ber 5. the “Yellow” Pages under the heading “Associations” is also a good idea as everything from social service agencies to cultural, ethnic, sport and business organizations are listed. The District Annual of the Women’s Institute will be held at Benmiller United Church on May 29 with registration at 9:15 a.m. Jean Plaetzer gave the card report. Mildred Lawlor introduced the guest speaker topic being Public Relations with Lisa Boon- stoppel, Huron County Dairy Prin­ cess. Lisa stated she was a P.R. person, and told of her duties and explained what you have to know the way you dress and posture and makeup, etc. and her work to promote her products made of milk. She had made dip and passed it and vegetable thins around and recipes for the dip, which was very tasty. There was a question and answer priod. Evelyn Merrill thanked Lisa for her talk and presented her with a gift. Roll call was taken, being “Something I did that I thought I couldn’t.” The Queen and Grace were sung and lunch was served by Jean Plaetzer and Kay Lapp and a social time enjoyed. Prizes were given to Betty Archambault for having the most flowers blooming and Marjor­ ie McDougall for having the closest birthday. Here come the fuzz Amy Ross, a Gradel student at Brussels Public School, had the opportunity to play law-enforcer in Road Safety Show at the school last Thursday. Special guest was Elmer the Safety Elephant. Kindergarten to Grade 3 were taught the fundamentals of road safety. The show was sponsored by the Ontario Safety League and Petro-Canada.
