Grey Central Echo Grey students win at Festival SPRING DAY by Rachel van Veen and Heather Thompson On Thursday, May 4, the kinder­ garten through to grade 1-2, par­ ticipated in a Spring Day. They were split up into many groups and named their group either a flower or a bug. Many indoor and outdoor activities were enjoyed, lead by both Grey Central teachers and guest helpers. This was a neat and exciting day for both adults and students. P.A. DAY by D. Terpstra and J. Miners On Friday, May 5 the teachers went to Exeter for a “Multicultur­ alism” day lopment. The day Lieutenant Lincoln Alexander. He told them how important it was for the teachers to be aware of the Heritage of students from the different cultures in our classroom. The teachers then broke off into discussion groups where, for ex­ ample, an E.S.L. (English as a Second Language) teacher told of the problems for new Canadians in learning our language and under­ standing our culture. Boyd and K. Kerr On Monday, May 1, Grey Cen­ tral students had an author visit their school. The name erf this author is Frank Etherington. Mr. Frank Etherington spoke to grades 1 and 1-2. Mr. Etherington told them many funny stories. Altogether Mr. Frank Ethering­ ton has written three books. They are: “The General’’, “Those Words’’ and “When I’m Bigger Than Five”. All the children enjoyed the author and we would like to thank him for coming. DICKY DEAN by J. Vanass and C. Earl On May 3, Dicky Dean and his wife Marg came to our school to present his skills in magic. Before Dicky Dean came out to show his stuff, his wife Marg game out and told us the different kinds of magic. She also told us that they travel in schools from Manitoba to Nova Scotia. All entries from the school placed in the competition. Mr. Colquhoun’s Intermediate Grade 7-8 combined choir took top honours and brought home the first place Furtney Trophy. The Double Soprano, Alto group of 12 in the Junior division received the first place award. The Grade 6 choir came second and the combin­ ed choir of Grades 4, 5, and 6, brought home two third place awards in two different classes. The Grade 5 choir was also third.
