There were 10 ladies present tor
the May meeting of the Afternoon
Unit of the U.C.W. with Mrs. Sarah
Anderson in charge. The secre
tary’s and treasurer’s reports were
given and visits to sick and shut-ins
recorded.
Mrs. Alice Scott opened the
worship with the singing of the
hymn “This is My Father’s
World’’. She used Matthew 6:
25-34 and verses 11-13 and verse
16 of the Song of Solomon for the
basis of her remarks. We are in
tune with spring and life is beauti-
RIDE
ful, followed with prayer and
singing hymn “All Things Bright
and Beautiful.”
Mrs. Audrey Fenton continued
the Bible study of Matthew 5:
23-26. For meditation she used the
writing of Matthew by Wm. Bar-
cley. So much of it applied to our
times and troubles, forgiving is the
first step to make peace in our
time.
Mrs. Olive Bolt with the use of a
map of Southern Ontario showed
the area acquired by the Mohawk
Indians and the area of the Menno-
nites. She described their Old
Order Mennonites and those of
modern people. Mrs. Anderson
concluded the meeting with prayer.
later this season. Rev. Tucker
replied briefly.
Scripture passages from Acts 12
and John 7 were read. The basic
verse “No one laid hands on Him”
was the focal point of Mr. Roberts’
message. The event described in
John 7, happened at the Feast of
the Tabernacles, in late September
or early October. A golden pitcher
filled with fresh spring water was
carried in a procession around and
around the frond-strewn Taber
nacle area by signing pedestrians.
Finally the water was poured on the
ground. This illustrated “Need”
and the “Satisfaction of Need”.
The scrioture tells us two things:
1. This is a Community of Word;
God’s word is of instruction, chal
lenge, inspiration, sustenance. - A
Community of Word. Babies are
received into a Community of
God’s Word. This is important in
their lives. It gives inspiration,
comfort and knowledge.
2. This is a Community of Spirit.
Nothing is false; no halo. The
Community of God is always pre
sent in spirit. The spirit keeps us
from wrong. The parents with their
babies to be baptized occupied the
front pew for the Sacrament which
followed the Order of Baptism in
the Service Book. Hymns related to
the service were sung. The offerty
plates were passed by Douglas
Casemore, Mark Coultes, Ross
Higgins and John R. Taylor.
Mom won’t miss one
Ten year old Jeff Lewington of RR 2, Brussels couldn’t wait to
get the brownies his Mom bought at the Walton'Sports Club
Garage Sale home. The sale was held in the basement of the
Community Hall last Saturday afternoon.

off the first of long weekend
R.I.D.E. blitzes this summer.
For the first time, the Ministry of
the Solicitor General, in conjunc
tion with the Ontario Provincial
Police, regional and municipal
forces, is sponsoring a co-operative
R.I.D.E. program, to take place on
long weekends during the summer.
The concept, initiated by a
co-ordinated traffic management
group looking at ways to solve
common accident-causing pro
blems affecting forces throughout
the province, will continue through
until Thanksgiving Day weekend.
R.I.D.E. teams will be out in full
force in towns and cities and on
roads leading to cottage country,
beaches and resort areas.
The goal is to reduce drinking/
driving motor vehicle accidents by
increasing the risk of apprehen
sion.
