Phone 887-9487 Mother’s Day busy in Belgrave community A shower was given to Marjorie Procter, bride-to-be, London on May 7 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Procter, RR 5, Brussels. Guests present were Mrs. Betty Kelly, RR 2, Blyth; Mrs. Elizabeth Procter, Belgrave; Mrs. Dave Lee, Blyth; Mrs. Bruce Schmidt of RR 2, Blyth; Mrs. Gary Van Camp, RR 4, Brussels; Mrs. Ronald Hill, RR 1, Tavistock; Mrs. Larry Mayberry, Marilyn and Kimberly of Londes- borough; Mrs. Howard Zettler, Sherri, Amanda and Alicia of RR 4, Walkerton. Mr. Neil Bieman, Marcia, Mir­ anda and Mia of Wingham, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Bieman, Kent, Blair and Susan, of RR 2, Lucknow, Douglas Bieman and Shirley Dodds of Kincardine visited with their mother Mrs. Agnes Bieman on Mother’s Day. On Monday, Mrs. John Lepping- ton and Sara of Clinton visited with her mother Mrs. Agnes Bieman. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Craig and family of RR 2, Blyth, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Daer and family of RR 5, Wingham hosted Mother’s Day at dinner on Sunday at the Blyth Inn. Those present were Mrs. Winni- fred Johnston of Wingham, and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse of Belgrave. After the dinner they all met at the home of Mr. and" Mrs. Donald Craig. The Spring 4H project is “Let’s Landscape’’. If anyone 11 years of age by January 1, 1989 up to 21 years of age is interested, please contact Mrs. Ruth Gordon. Marjorie Procter and Philip Stop- forth of London visited with Mrs. Elizabeth Procter, Belgrave and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Zettler, Sherry, Amanda and Alicia of Walkerton on Sunday, May 7. Mrs. Robert Winter, Formosa and Mrs. Olive Bolt visited Satur­ day, May 13, with Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Nixon and family of Water­ loo. Mr. and Mrs. George McGee, Mr. and Mrs. Jim McGee, Robbie, Courtney and Cody of RR 3, Wingham; Mrs. Marion Strauss, Jackie and Laura of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Logan, Kevin and Trevor of Wyoming; Mr. and Mrs. Murray Procter, Mark, Kyle, Kirk and Andrea of London; Mrs. Doro­ thy Logan and her granddaughter Becky of Belgrave were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Donald G. Procter and Carl after the christen­ ing of their daughter Ellen Louise of RR 4, Brussels in Knox United Church, Belgrave Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Logan, Kevin and Trevor of Wyoming called on his mother Mrs. Dorothy Logan. 15 tables at Euchre Fifteen tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave, Wednes­ day, May 10. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. George Drehmann; second high lady, Mrs. Herb Clayton; most lone hands, Mrs. Laura Johnston; low lady, Mrs. Agnes Gaunt; high man, Mrs. Jean Pattison (playing as a man); second high man, Leslie Vincent; most lone hands, Clarence Hanna; low man, Mrs. Mabel Wheeler (playing as a man). There will be euchre again Wednesday, May 17 starting at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The money was raised through the sale of chocolate bars. Baptism on at Belgrave church Mother’s Day, May 14, was befittingly selected to administer the Sacrament of Baptism to Scott Evan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald R. Procter, RR 5, Brussels; Trevor William John, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary McArter, RR 4, Brussels; Ellen Louise, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald George Procter, RR 4, Brussels; Levi Coultes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cook, Belgrave in Knox United Church, Belgrave. Rev. John G. Roberts, assisted in responsive reading and prayer, by Rev. Peter Tucker of Wales con­ ducted the service. The sanctuary was tastefully decorated with colourful potted plants and arrangements. The large choir of mixed voices sang, “This Child we dedicate to Thee’’, with organist, Mrs. George Proc­ ter, accompanist. Rev. John G. Roberts commenc­ ed the service by introducing to the large congregation of Knox, Rev. Peter Tucker, who will succeed Rev. Roberts on his retirement Belgrave UCW studies Indian lands There were 10 ladies present tor the May meeting of the Afternoon Unit of the U.C.W. with Mrs. Sarah Anderson in charge. The secre­ tary’s and treasurer’s reports were given and visits to sick and shut-ins recorded. Mrs. Alice Scott opened the worship with the singing of the hymn “This is My Father’s World’’. She used Matthew 6: 25-34 and verses 11-13 and verse 16 of the Song of Solomon for the basis of her remarks. We are in tune with spring and life is beauti- RIDE ful, followed with prayer and singing hymn “All Things Bright and Beautiful.” Mrs. Audrey Fenton continued the Bible study of Matthew 5: 23-26. For meditation she used the writing of Matthew by Wm. Bar- cley. So much of it applied to our times and troubles, forgiving is the first step to make peace in our time. Mrs. Olive Bolt with the use of a map of Southern Ontario showed the area acquired by the Mohawk Indians and the area of the Menno- nites. She described their Old Order Mennonites and those of modern people. Mrs. Anderson concluded the meeting with prayer. later this season. Rev. Tucker replied briefly. Scripture passages from Acts 12 and John 7 were read. The basic verse “No one laid hands on Him” was the focal point of Mr. Roberts’ message. The event described in John 7, happened at the Feast of the Tabernacles, in late September or early October. A golden pitcher filled with fresh spring water was carried in a procession around and around the frond-strewn Taber­ nacle area by signing pedestrians. Finally the water was poured on the ground. This illustrated “Need” and the “Satisfaction of Need”. The scrioture tells us two things: 1. This is a Community of Word; God’s word is of instruction, chal­ lenge, inspiration, sustenance. - A Community of Word. Babies are received into a Community of God’s Word. This is important in their lives. It gives inspiration, comfort and knowledge. 2. This is a Community of Spirit. Nothing is false; no halo. The Community of God is always pre­ sent in spirit. The spirit keeps us from wrong. The parents with their babies to be baptized occupied the front pew for the Sacrament which followed the Order of Baptism in the Service Book. Hymns related to the service were sung. The offerty plates were passed by Douglas Casemore, Mark Coultes, Ross Higgins and John R. Taylor. Mom won’t miss one Ten year old Jeff Lewington of RR 2, Brussels couldn’t wait to get the brownies his Mom bought at the Walton'Sports Club Garage Sale home. The sale was held in the basement of the Community Hall last Saturday afternoon. teams at work Victoria Day weekend will kick off the first of long weekend R.I.D.E. blitzes this summer. For the first time, the Ministry of the Solicitor General, in conjunc­ tion with the Ontario Provincial Police, regional and municipal forces, is sponsoring a co-operative R.I.D.E. program, to take place on long weekends during the summer. The concept, initiated by a co-ordinated traffic management group looking at ways to solve common accident-causing pro­ blems affecting forces throughout the province, will continue through until Thanksgiving Day weekend. R.I.D.E. teams will be out in full force in towns and cities and on roads leading to cottage country, beaches and resort areas. The goal is to reduce drinking/ driving motor vehicle accidents by increasing the risk of apprehen­ sion.
