Obituaries BERT HASTINGS Funeral service was held at two o’clock on Tuesday, May Z, at {.he McBurney Funeral Home for Wil­ bert Noble (Bert) Hastings of Morris Township. Rev. Bonnie Lamble of Bluevale United Church, where Mr. Hast­ ings was a member, conducted the complete funeral and commital service and interment followed in Wingham Cemetery. Honorary bearers were Dalvin Hastings, Paul Ross, Bevan Finlay, Charlie Hop­ per, Ken Hopper, Gary Conley, Donald Irwin, Michael Irwin and Stephen Irwin. Mr. Hastings died Saturday, April 29, at his home at the age of 70 years. Born in Morris Township on April 30, 1918, he was a son of the late Elmer Hastings and Isa­ bella Powell. He received elemen­ tary school education at Stone School, Concession 2, Morris Township and attended Wingham High School. He farmed all his adult life on the south half of Lot 9, Concession 2, Morris. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, the former Ruth Irwin of Lucknow, whom he married on Oct. 20, 1962, at Calvin-Brick United Church; one son, Murray Hastings of Cambridge, Preston. He was predeased by his brother, King, during World War II. STEWART MA KLIN JOHNSTON Stewart Maklin Johnston passed away suddenly on May 4, 1989 at Victoria Hospital, London in his 70th year. He was bom at the home of his late parents Eldridge and Violet Johnston in East Wawanosh Town­ ship on September 9, 1919. He was married on Jan. 3, 1942 to Stella Brown. He was an Elder at the Blyth United Church and member of the Blyth Royal Canadian Legion Branch 420. He is survived by his wife Stella and his children Wayne of Petrolia; Joanne (Mrs. Murray Souch) of Blyth; Joyce (Mrs. Phil Breckles) of Goderich; Gail Daer of Strathroy; Robert of Clinton; Jimmy of Blyth; Brian of Blyth; Lynda (Mrs. Mark Kennedy), of Clinton; Paul of Clinton and Rhonda (Mrs. Dave Bartliff) of Clinton. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and one great- granddaughter. The funeral service was held Sunday, May 7, 1989 at 2 p.m. from the Tasker Funeral Home in Blyth with Rev. Ramirez officiating. In­ terment was at Blyth Union Ceme­ tery. Pallbearers were grandsons Brian Crow, Kevin Coultes, Darcey Souch, Marty Souch, Greg John­ ston and Jeff Johnston. Flower carriers were grandsons Michael Johnston, Kevin Souch, Chris Kennedy and Jason Souch. WILLIAM ALEXANDER COULTER A native of East Wawanosh Township, bom there on Sept. 14, 1912, William Alexander (Alex) Coulter, died Monday, April 24, at his home, 475 Ross Street, Luck* now. At 76 years of age, his death followed a brief illness. Alex was the son of the late Frank Coulter and Mary Purdon. He attended Zetland School, then became a farmer, first in East Wawanosh, later in Alberta. He retired in 1978. He was a member of Goderich Presbyterian Church. Mr. Coulter is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Eric (Patricia) Maki of RR 5, Lucknow and was prede­ ceased by one son, Reginald, in 1968. Also surviving are two grand­ children, Troy Maki of RR 5, Lucknow and Jeffrey Coulter of Goderich, as well as one sister, Mrs. David (Isabel) MacDonald of Lucknow. He was predeceased by one brother, Chester, in 1961. A private funeral service was held at the McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham, with Rev. John P. Vaudry officiating. Cremation took place, with interment of ashes in Wingham Cemetery. WILLEMINA VAN OENEN Willemina Van Oenen, of God­ erich, died at University Hospital, London, on Wednesday, April 26, 1989. She was 74. Mrs. Van Oenen was a housewife and a member of Trinity Christian Reformed Church. She was bom in Winterswyk, Holland, on Oct. 31, 1914 to the late Gerrit Jan and Janna Wille­ mina (Hoytink) Simmelink. Surviving Mrs. Van Oenen are her children, Annie and Siebolt Siertsema of Auburn; Wilma and Pete Groot of Fruitland; Joanne and William Korvemaker of Lon­ don; Dianne and Herman Proper of Hamilton; Gary and Dianne Van Oenen of Goderich; Bill and There­ sa Van Oenan of Owen Sound. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Dian (Mrs. A. Van Oenen) of Hamilton; Annie (Mrs. G. W. Klomps) of Clinton; Sina, John and Ben all in Holland. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren. Mrs. Van Oenen was predeceas­ ed by her husband, John Van Oenen. The funeral service was held at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, Goderich, on Saturday, April 29. Rev. Harry Vriend offici­ ated. Active pallbearers were Jim Siertsema, Norman Groot, Richard Groot, Jeffrey Korvenmaker and Nathan Proper. Interment was at Maitland Cem­ etery. OLIVE JANE PENFOUND Olive Penfound of Londesboro died in Clinton Public Hospital on April 27. She was 88. Bom in Goderich Township on October 21, 1900, she was the daughter of David and Lucy (Ball) Wright. A member of Londesboro United Church, she was married to Wil­ fred Penfound on May 15, 1929.
