Phone 523-4360 Ladies get trophies at bowling banquet The Burns U.C.W. was held on Wednesday, May 3 at Londesboro United Church with 13 members and one visitors present. Jean Scott was in charge of the Parable topic of sermon Greeters at the Londesboro Unit­ ed Church on Sunday, May 7 were Ron and Margarite Gross. Ushers were Denise Hulley, Tracy Salver- da, Pam Hoggart and Cheryl Hoggart. The sermon topic was “The Parable of the Vineyard’’. The Senior Youth Group meets on Thursday, May 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Willy’s Burger Bar in Clinton for a Mini-golf Tournament. Bible Study is Friday, May 12 at 1:15 p.m. at the Snihurs. The Junior Youth Group and Boy’s Club meet on Saturday, May 13 from 2 - 4 p.m. at Willy's Burger Bar for a Mini-golf Tournament. The Rummage Sale will be held at Londesboro Church on Saturday, May 13, 9 - 12 a.m. Sweaters missing Please look in your closets for Londesboro burgundy Royal Cana­ dian Legion Branch 420 ball shirts. Please call Art Airdrie 523-4462 if you have one. They are needed now. These have been missing for two years. 4-H Swine club holds meeting The North Huron 4H Swine Club held its first meeting May 2 at the home of member Dave Winkel. President Hazel Rae opened the meeting with the 4H pledge. Members judged a class of four bred gilts. Then they moved to the house and went over their lesson on judging and had a general intro­ duction to the Swine Housing and Equipment book. The next meeting will be held at the farm of Ron Klingenberg on June 13 at 8 o’clock. A judging competition will be held in Brussels on May 27. The meeting was closed and a delicious lunch was served by Mrs. Winkel. meeting and opened with a Thought for the Day. A hymn followed. The scripture reading was given by Jean Scott. Joan Hoggart gave a reading, “A Flower Wedding’’. Jean Scott led in prayer. The topic, Christian Ste­ wardship, was presented by Jean Scott. Renee Snell conducted the busi­ ness. Roll call was answered with a Bible Verse and minutes of the last meeting were read. Marg Taylor gave the treasurer’s report. A donation was made to Blyth United Church Organ Fund in memory of Marjorie McNall. A thank you was read from Rev. Dave Caron and Gray Snihur. A donation of $100 was made to the Sunday School. The money for the copper contest was counted; both teams having equal amounts. Hazel Reid and Margaret Taylor are to make enquiries regarding the dinner meeting June 7. The meeting closed with prayer. Grace was sung and lunch served by Jean Scott. The Londesboro Ladies Bowling League held its banquet at the church on Tuesday evening, May 2. This year the League had 40 regulars and five spares. Top Team was Patties Peppers with 124. Brenda Radford present­ ed the Radford Trophy to the Captain Patti Maquire. The other members were Kay Cook, Helen Dale, Cathy Wammies and Susan McVittie. The second place team was The Hot Peppers with 123 points. Members were June Thom­ as, Agnes Doherty, Yvonne Hog­ gart, June Fothergill and Rita Verburg. Each member of the two top teams received individual trophies. Perfect attendance awards for 84 games were Dorothy Carter, Betty Dale, Gerry Dale, Helen Dale, Patti Maguire, Josie McGregor, Janet Taylor, June Thomas, Rita Verburg and Fay Wilson. The awards were given as fol­ lows: Genevieve Allan presented the T.B. Allan Trophy to Dorothy Airdrie for high average of 192; R.V. high average, Rita Verburg; high triple, Janet Taylor; R.V. high triple, Dorothy Carter; high single, Debbie Cuthill; R.V. high single, Dorothy Carter; most improved, Yvonne Hoggart; R.V. most im­ proved, Helen Bisback. Awards were also given to Susan Proctor and Mary Salverda. Five members received an award for high triple of 650 or more. Thirteen members received pins for high singles over 250. Debbie Cuthill and Dorothy Carter had games over 300. Janet Taylor had the high triple of 708. The church ladies served a delicious smorgasbord meal after which it was back to the bowling alley for two games of bowling. June Fothergill would like to thank her helpers Betty Moon, Pearl Mason and Nancy Allen for their help in collecting for the Cancer Society. Total received was $394. “I’ve been captain for 20 years”, she says, and this is the most we have ever collected to this time. So thanks to all donors.” Seniors bowl for Senior Games spots Thirteen Happy Gang Seniors had a Bowl-off at Clinton lanes on Tuesday, May 2. The five highest bowlers will go on to the Senior Games at Zurich on June 27. High men were Jack Lee, Harry Lear and Joe Hunking. High ladies were June Fothergill and Nellie Brock.
