G. Schafer of Kitchener, Mr. Metzloff’s lawyer pointed to the presentence report in telling Judge R. G. E. Hunter that Mr. Metzloff had emotional problems in part due to his handicap of Muscular Dys trophy. He pointed out that all the offences were property related and the public was not endangered. The central problem had been well addressed by the probation officer in the presentence report, he said, in the lack of direction in Mr. Metzloff’s life. The latest episodes (he also has a lengthy criminal record) were triggered by the break Wilson; ladies’ low, Isabel Craig; Anniversary closest to 50, Doug and Wilma Hemingway; closest to 40, Bill and Isabel Craig; table with most daffodils, Richard Kilburg, Bill Craig, Elunid McNair and Fern Howatt; lady with birthday closest to Mother’s Day, Irma Brighton. Special thanks was given to the Cancer Committee, Majestic W.I. and everyone who helped in any wav. up of a relationship with his girl friend, Mr. Schafer said. He point ed out that Mr. Metzloff had been in custody since Feb. 19 and said that with the time already served, he felt a sentence of 12 to 15 months should be considered. Acting crown attorney Alan Mill said this was an unusual problem and felt that the need for a sense of direction for Mr. Metzloff could be better met in reformatory than penitentiary. He felt a mid-to- upper-range reformatory sentence was in order. Judge Hunter said he took into account the guilty pleas and the co-operation with police and the time already spent in jail in determining the sentence. But, he told Mr. Metzloff, “I might say that this is the low end of the scale. If you come back again you’ll likely be looking at a penitentiary sen tence. We reach a point where we have to be more concerned with protecting society than we are with you and we are fast reaching that point.”r o At the April 20 meeting Londes- boro and District Lions Club ap proved the donation of $700 to Clinton Hospital Equipment Fund, this amount being the profit from a very successful country breakfast on Sunday, April 2.
