THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 3, 1989. PAGE 15. Brussels people Continued from page 2 seis and Walton Trail-Blazers at the Ontario Federation of Snowmo bile Clubs Convention in Toronto this past weekend. After an after noon of meetings full of the usual lengthy discussions and boring diatribes, I decided to take a quick trip to the mall (as any normal woman in Toronto for a weekend would). However, with little time to spare, Mark felt it couldn’t be done. But being a normal woman, I knew that 1 knew better than he what I was capable of, so I hired a hack and away I went. At five-thirty I was ready to return and felt rather smug as there was ample time for me to prepare for dinner. Only one tiny detail stood in my way - I couldn’t get a cab. Don’t ask me what happened, I’ll probably never know. I spent $2.00 on telephones to hire a taxi but never saw any return on my money. Finally, at six o’clock I was locked out of the mall with no access to a telephone. To make a long story short, I ended up hijacking an airport taxi. I made it to the hotel with five minutes to spare. I had just enough time to get my bearings after that when the fire alarm went off and we were shipped outside to stand in the cold for over an hour. The fire was caused by the electric heat on the ninth floor. Checkout time took us a mere 90 minutes to accomplish Sunday morning enabling us to get to my sister’s for brunch at 2:30 p.m. I have never appreciated the small town life, nor the easy-going lifestyle of Brussels more than I did this past weekend.
