Following the traditional happy hour the players, guests, parents, and executive were treated to a delicious roast beef dinner served by the B. M. & G. Catering Ladies. Master of Ceremonies Neil Mc Gavin delivered a good natured monologue and in his own unique style introduced the players who in turn introduced their parents and guests. Each player was presented with a team picture by Coach Steve Coulter. Player individual awards and trophies were presented. The Lead ing Scorer Trophy was given to Marty Rutledge who broke numer ous team scoring records including most goals, most assists, and most points in one season. Kevin Tals ma, was named Rookie of the Year. Craig Robertson was the choice for Most Improved Player. Mike Vincent ended a 5-year junior career by winning the Play off MVP while captain Brian Camp bell took home the Bulls Most Valuable Player Award. As well Plaques of Appreciation were pres ented to Brian Campbell, Paul Coultes, Sean Kieffer, Jeff Mc Gavin and Mike Vincent as the teams overage players. Joe and Lin Steffler made a special presentation in their name of a Coaches Aw-ard to the player who best epitomizes the word “team” effort. This year’s winner was a tie between Jeff McGavin and Sean Kieffer. The veteran players then took over and presented coaches Steve Coulter and Hugh Nichol, manager Jim Fritz, trainers Alex and Carol Henderson and St. John’s Attend ant Jim Gamiss with plaques for their dedication to the team throughout the year. Also Marlene Rutledge and Gord Jacklin who held the overlooked but appreciat ed positions as timekeeper and official scorer were honored as well. Joe Steffler gave an excellent speech on the behind the scenes problems of the Brussels Bulls including a definite shortage of Madill wins field at Kitchener meet Members of the F. E. Madill track and field team faced strong competition from over 30 other schools at the seventh annual Bluevale Relays at Centennial Sta dium in Kitchener on Saturday, April 22. Madill put on an impressive showing and proved themselves a force to be reckoned with, accord ing to team coach, Mrs. Lisle. They won the overall field championship for the third year in a row, while accumulating more points on the track than ever before. The highlight of the day for the Madill athletes was Ken MacDon ald’s discus throw of 39.60 metres • which set a new meet .record and won the gold. Also, in true tradition Madill executive members which leads to the difficulty in operating the hockey club. The Bulls must raise in the neighbourhood of $30,000 a year to ice a hockey team and simply do not have the manpower to do so unless more volunteers are found. Joe stressed that just be cause you do not have a son playing for the Bulls is no reason not to come forward and lend a helping hand. The surprise of the night came when Steve Coulter announc ed he was stepping down as coach of the Bulls to become more involved in the executive and fundraising.
