Morning fire kills
animals in Grey barn
A morning fire destroyed the
barn of Bob Ahren’s on Lot 31,
Concession 18 of Grey Township on
Wednesday, April 26.
The blaze which began shortly
before 9 a.m., ravaged the older
conventional barn and left half of
the roof to the new single storey
addition. Some pigs in the upstairs
portion of the older barn and most
of the remaining livestock perished
or were shipped.
re-Monkton Fire Department
sponded first to the alarm and
assisted the Grey Fire Department
with their pumper and tanker.
Firefighters remained on the scene
until 3:30 p.m. then returned at 6
p.m. in response to a second call,
which took another three hours to
extinguish.
There is no estimate of the
damage as yet and cause of the fire
is undetermined.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE
by J. Vanass and C. Earl
On Monday, the Huron County
Education Committee came to Grey
Central.
When they were here we had an
assembly. The grade six and eight
choir sang a few songs. We also
had a slide presentation of pictures
taken in the last two years. We all
hope the Huron County Education
Committee enjoyed our assembly.
MR. SMITH
by Cathy Earl and
Jolanda Vanass
On Friday, a man came to our
school to take pictures of our school
and the students. Mr. Ralph Smith
is doing this for a presentation:
Huron County history. He went
around to the other Huron County
schools and took pictures of some
students from other countries.
He’ll then present the pictures to
people.
Before he went around he took a
picture of us in gym and our
teacher playing floor hockey. We
hope the pictures turn out and the
presentation goes well.
