Phone 887-6677 Morning fire kills animals in Grey barn A morning fire destroyed the barn of Bob Ahren’s on Lot 31, Concession 18 of Grey Township on Wednesday, April 26. The blaze which began shortly before 9 a.m., ravaged the older conventional barn and left half of the roof to the new single storey addition. Some pigs in the upstairs portion of the older barn and most of the remaining livestock perished or were shipped. re-Monkton Fire Department sponded first to the alarm and assisted the Grey Fire Department with their pumper and tanker. Firefighters remained on the scene until 3:30 p.m. then returned at 6 p.m. in response to a second call, which took another three hours to extinguish. There is no estimate of the damage as yet and cause of the fire is undetermined. Greif Central Echo NEW PRINCIPAL by J. Vanass and C. Earl This year there is going to be another change of principal. Grey Central’s new principal is going to be Mr. Wayne Tessier. Mr. Tessier is from the Lake Superior Board of Education. He was a vice principal in the secon­ dary panel and a principal in the elementary panel. His family is going to move here this summer. I’m sure that Grey Central will like him. CANADIAN ASSOC. OF PRINCIPALS CONFERENCE by D. Terpstra and J. Miners This conference was held on April 19, 20, 21. It was a workshop for principals where there were different things happening. On Wednesday, Mr. Whiteley went to Queen’s Park, Toronto and met with the select committee of education in Ontario. On Thursday and Friday there were several workshops on school organization, etc. A guest speaker there, was Minister of Education Sean Con­ way and the Lt. Governor of Ontario, Lincoln Alexander. For Mr. Whiteley it was a terrific learning experience. EDUCATION COMMITTEE by J. Vanass and C. Earl On Monday, the Huron County Education Committee came to Grey Central. When they were here we had an assembly. The grade six and eight choir sang a few songs. We also had a slide presentation of pictures taken in the last two years. We all hope the Huron County Education Committee enjoyed our assembly. MR. SMITH by Cathy Earl and Jolanda Vanass On Friday, a man came to our school to take pictures of our school and the students. Mr. Ralph Smith is doing this for a presentation: Huron County history. He went around to the other Huron County schools and took pictures of some students from other countries. He’ll then present the pictures to people. Before he went around he took a picture of us in gym and our teacher playing floor hockey. We hope the pictures turn out and the presentation goes well. LIBRARY MEETING by Heather T. and Rachel V. On Tuesday, April 11, Mrs. Gillies and Mr. Whiteley attended a librarian’s meeting at the board office in Clinton. The Ministry of Education is reviewing the school libraries in Huron County. Mr. Whiteley and Mrs. Gillies have to fill out a questionnaire concerning our li­ brary facilities and library usage. Perhaps in later years our library may have a new addition and be computerized. Church to have country supper Morning worship service was in charge of Rev. Bonnie Lamble. Terry Smith greeted at the door and gave out bulletins. The offer­ ing was received by Barry Hoegy and Ross Bennett. In the announcements, U.C.W. members were reminded of the joint meeting at the church this Wednesday at 8 p.m. with guest speaker Eva Buchanan who is a nurse in the United Church Hospi­ tal in B.C. the executive meeting is called for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for the Country Supper Smorgasbord, June 18, 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. Adults $8. Sponsored by Duff’s United Church. 4-H club visits museum ABOUT PEOPLE Visiting with Isabelle Shortreed during the past week were Louise and Bill Smith, Mitchell and Annie Reid, Seaforth. The 4-H members of Walton I Club, their leaders and mothers joined other clubs on a bus trip to the Milton Agricultural Museum on Saturday as part of the Achieve­ ment Day for the project just completed, “Working with Wool’’. The Club will attend the Walton Institute meeting on May 17, as completion of this club. They did enjoy the demonstrations at the museum and found the wood fire in the buildings quite comforting on such a cool windy day. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 3, 1989. PAGE 7. Connie McClure was honoured for her work in Students’ Council Activities at Seaforth District Secondary School at the excellence in education awards night in Holmesville Wednesday night. Making the presentation is John Jewitt, chair of the Huron County Board of Education. Heather Baan was one of five Seaforth District High School students who received excellence in education awards at a banquet in Holmesville Wednesday night from John Jewltt, chair of the Huron County Board of Education. She was rewarded for her consistently high marks at the school.
