Brussels By Bonnie Gropp Phone 887-9114 or 523-4792 While enjoying a spring jaunt this past weekend, four year old Brooklyn Wheeler and her mother Brenda spied a balloon floating across an open field. When they retrieved it they discovered that it had travelled an approximate dis- beginning at 11 a.m. All students will parade to McCutcheon’s Mo tors, then north down Turnberry to the Library, then proceed south to tne Nursing Home before returning to the school. Following that there will be a Fun Fair at 1:00 in the gym. Friends, neighbours, and rela- tance of 800 miles. The letter inside the balloon was from three year old Amy Cahill of Lenexa, Kansas. They asked that whoever finds the balloon contact them by filling out the reverse side of the letter telling them where you found the balloon and returning it to La Petite Academy. Services in Brussels Council’s pay as you go policy goes An attempt by the Brussels council to adopt a “pay as you go” development philosophy mec heavy opposition from property owners on John Street, in the south end of the village, Monday night and council has offered a deal that won’t cover all costs from lot levies. An angry group of property owners, led by former village councillor Malcolm Jacobs objected to a proposal from council and the Public Utilities Commission to re cover all the costs of expanding the sewer line along John Street which will open up several new building lots. Also present were Bruce McCall, Mike Thomas, Bob Ray mond and Mrs. Sam Workman. The council’s proposal would have recovered all the estimated $20,163 from the landowners who would benefit in the area, or the program could be expanded to serve the homes of Mr. Raymond and Ken Tyerman for an extra $4,000. Mr. Jacobs objected that a lot levy of $2,250 had been set for providing sewer services to lots in the McDonald-Bryans subdivision after council reached an agreement with the developers of those lots. Worse, he said, the agreement signed with the developers in 1982 meant the council would have to pay all the costs of servicing lots on existing streets. On James street it meant that on the west side of the road the lot owners would have to pay if sewers were ever installed under the new policy, and on the east side, the town would pay the costs for the developers. Hugh Hanly, clerk-treasurer said that agreement had been a mistake but there was nothing council could do to remedy the situation now. Reeve Gordon Workman said the council never found out about the provisions of the original agree ment until a year ago and after taking the agreement to lawyers in Goderich and London had been given opinions the agreement should never have been made but CARPETS- UPHOLSTERY AUTOINTERIORS Cleaned at your home or place of business.
