Phone 887-9487 Family gathers to celebrate birthday Mrs. Helen Martin spent a few days last week with her sister Mrs. Anna Armstrong of Thorndale. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston, Tara and Erin of Ilderton. Mrs. Agnes Bieman was a dinner guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Bieman on Sunday this being the occasion of Kent Bie- man’s birthday. Other guests were Mrs. Irlma Edgar of Wingham, Mr. and Mrs. Niel Edgar and Todd of RR 3, Wingham and George Inglis of RR 1, Belgrave. The family of Harold and Edith Vincent gathered for dinner at the Golden Lantern Restaurant, Brus­ sels, Sunday, April 23 to celebrate Harold’s upcoming birthday May 2. Also honoured were his brother Les whose birthday is the same day and his sister Dorothy Logan whose birthday is April 28. Those attending were: Harold and Edith Vincent, Belgrave; Mur­ ray and Joyce Vincent, Dean, Jayne and Vaughn, RR 1, Bel­ 75 attend benefit night for Wattams Approximately 75 neighbours and friends gathered for a benefit evening in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave on Friday evening for Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wattam and family who re­ cently lost part of their home by fire. Fifteen tables of progressive euchre were played. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Olive Bolt; high man, George Michie; low lady, 15 tables at euchre Fifteen tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the W.I. Hall Belgrave, April 19. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Jack Taylor; low lady, Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse; novelty lady, Mrs. Pearl Shiell; lucky draw lady, Mrs. Ivy Cloakey; high man, Leslie Vincent; low man, Lloyd Appleby; novelty man, Mrs. Jas. R. Coultes, grave; Don and Carol Vincent, Patrick, Aaron and Angela, Wind­ sor; Neil and Joan Vincent and Margaret, RR 3, Wingham; Grant and Cindy Vincent, Cole and Garritt, RR 5, Wingham; Les and Hilda Vincent and Dorothy Logan of Belgrave. Mrs. Elizabeth Feeley of Surrey, B.C., returned to Ontario recently for a 10;-day stay, to attend the wedding of her brother, Gordon Elliott and to visit with other relatives. She also spent several days with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Yuill of Belgrave. Gordon of London, the son of Mrs. Clarence Yuill and the late Mitchell Elliott, married Louise Lewis of Forest on April 15 in Strathroy. Mr. and Mrs. Yuill and Miss Edith Stokes, aunt of the groom attended the wedding. Eliz­ abeth’s husband Philip, returned from Surrey, B.C. for the weekend of the wedding. Uncles and aunts attending the wedding from this area were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Elliott of Whitechurch, Mr. and Mrs. Bill MacPherson of Lucknow. Mrs. Helen Martin; low man, Alex Nethery; lucky chair, Mrs. James Hunter. Following the euchre, dancing was enjoyed with music supplied by Les Shaw. Later in the evening Jack Taylor asked Bob, Donna and family to come to the front and Lewis Stonehouse presented them with a gift of money. This followed with a delicious lunch. (playing as a man); lucky draw man, Jack Taylor. There will be a Shoot party April 26 starting at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. People Mrs. Elizabeth Procter visited on Sunday with Marjorie Procter and Philip Stopforth of London. East Wawanosh News Public School^ Pancakes and Nursery Rhymes KINDERGARTEN by Natascha Muscheid and Desiree Curtis The kindergarten B class has been quite busy. The class made delicious pancakes to try out differ­ ent types of maple syrup. Nursery Rhymes have been quite interesting and fun agreed the class and their favourites were Ba-Ba- Black Sheep, Old Mother Hubbard and Little Bo Peep. For crafts the class made Hum­ pty Dumpty and painted pictures for the school fair in September. The class has also been putting together puzzles. GRADE2 by Anita Massey The grade 2 class has been very busy. They have had lots of visitors. Mrs. Graham helped them do some weaving. Mrs. Gross has been helping them learn about rabbits and Beatrix Potter. Last Thursday they had visitors to tell them about how to take care of their teeth and they saw a video. To help their teeth and health they checked to see if they had food from each of the four food groups in their lunch for two weeks. They have enjoyed the gym equipment during the last few weeks. GRADE4 by Becky Van Camp and Michelle Frelburger Grade 4 has been watching the History of the Sandwich plays about how the sandwich was inven­ ted. The plays were all different even though they were based on the same thing. Soon we will be working on chocolate. We have already mailed letters to various chocolate factories. We are going to have lots of fun and learn a lot too. GRADE 7/8 by Krista Bird and Trisha Taylor On Saturday, April 15, we made pizza. We made them for our bus trip to Toronto. They were judged this week. Some kids in grade 7/8 dressed up for an Academy Awards Day. We have been doing gymnastics in the gym. We made silhouettes of ourselves in art class. In Quest we are working on stamping out Killer Statements. We have started re­ cycling paper in our class to help our environment. We are watching the movie Amadeus in music class. We had a visit from a dental hygenist last week. GRADE6 by Nancy Darlow We are studying Pierre Renoir. He is an artist. In gym, we are doing gymnastics and also getting tested. In science, we are studying the solar system. In social studies, we are doing projects on European Countries. It is fun! Ms. Thorpe is monitoring the class behaviour with a chart. If we receive five good days we will be going on a class trip in June. We hope to go to the science centre in Toronto. We are running a bi­ monthly contest in Music. Andrew Cull, who had a total of 376 points for March and April has won a hand-made puppet. A contribution of $500 was presented to the Brussels Starlettes from Royal Canadian Legion President Ross Bennett. Michelle McNeil, the group's instructor accepts the money on their behalf. Brussels Legion has also made a donation of $200 to the new community welcoming organization in Brussels, The Brussels Basket.
