Edna McLellan named Majestic Wl president The annual meeting was held for the Brussels Majestic Women’s Institute on April 12 at the St. John’s Anglican Church. A deli­ cious dinner was served by the ladies of the church. Alice Brothers and Freda Pipe played the piano before the meet­ ing was opened by President Edna McLellan. She then read a poem on “Rainbows”. Doris McCall read the minutes of March’s meeting and last year’s KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION by Michelle Nesbit and Andrea Henry On Tuesday, April 11, the Kin­ dergarten registration was held in the Auditorium of Blyth P.S. There was a total of 21 pre-schoolers enrolled. The Health Nurses were present to test the “soon-to-be” students for hearing and vision. The stu­ dents were also immunized. Mrs. Collins, the Area Resource Teacher, did some assessing for articulation, language and motor skills. The list of our September 1989 class follows with their parents’ name in brackets. POETS AND DIDN’T KNOW IT by Michelle Nesbitt and Andrea Henry The grade 7/8 students have been writing limericks in English class. Everyone had fun making silly rhymes. Some of the most popular limericks were: There once was a lady from Maine Who owned a faithful Great Dane She found out in a while When she was senile Wayne, the Dane, was more sane. by Josh Yanchus There once was a dangerous pig Who ran out in front of a rig He slipped on his face And lost the race And we had to peel the pig off the rig by Conrad Bos GRADE 4 ASSEMBLY by Erica Clark and Kim Ferguson On Thursday, April 13, the grade 4 class put on their assembly. The subject was “Spring.” The class presented a play about the Cana­ dian Beaver. The main characters were a family of beavers. Students annual. It was followed by the treasurer’s report. The delegates for the District Annual on May 9 are Wilma Hemingway, Ruth Bauer, Edna McLellan and Kathy Bridge. A lunch committee for the Dis­ trict Annual are Jane DeVries, Ruth Galbraith, Evelyn Mair and Alice Brothers. Jane DeVries, Eleanor Heming­ way and Effie Hendricks have offered to bring recycled items for the sale table. The next card party taking part were: Tara Wilson, Trent Richmond, Sandy and Craig Empey. Other characters included trackers, wood sprites, bears and wolverine. The class sang three songs called “The Rainbow Connection”, “The Hum Along Song”, and “The Syncopated Clock”. There were piano solos as well. The pianists were Abigail Ramirez. Shawn Clark, Jeff Ferguson, Jill Walden, Shawna Walker and Mar­ garet Ann Stewart. A lively skipp­ ing routine was performed by Toni Richmond, Sandy Walsh, Jennifer Brigham, Kim Lee and Kandice McNichol. is to be held on April 24 at 7 p.m. and will have a casserole supper. Reports were given by Sunshine Convener, Iona Moore; Ruth Gail- braith, the Program Co-ordinator and the auditors report by Isabel Adams. Peggy Cudmore made a motion to increase the honorarium for the Secretary-Treasurer, seconded by Jane DeVries. Roll call was an­ swered by revealing the Secret Sunshine Sisters. Marg MacLeod lead the group in a sing-song with Wilma Heming­ way on the piano. Jessie Engel was presented by Kathy Bridge with a plaque and pin for being a member for over 40 years. Peggy Cudmore introduced the guest speaker Marg McMahon. She spoke on a saying by her mother, “You weren’t born doing nothing” and finished with a poem.
