BONNIE LAMBLE WALTON-BLUEVALE PASTORAL CHARGE Here we are a few days after Easter. By now most of the Easter ham has been used up in leftovers. The chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs are history. The cat has chewed one of the fluffy yellow toy chicks and it lies forgotten in the dust under the fridge. So that’s about it for Easter. We’re back to normal. After all, that one day of celebra tion hasn’t changed much. The burdens of life that we carry are not appreciably lighter. Those who are grieving continue to feel the loneli ness and pain of loss, those who are seriously ill haven’t been miracu lously cured; those facing other problems haven’t found their trou bles suddenly resolved. Easter is reality. Jesus Christ had burst the bonds of death! And because of that they suddenly had a new purpose in life. This good news must be shared! For those women, Easter was not a one day event, it was a life-chang ing event. And so it is for us. Resurrection and new life are Christ’s gifts to us over and over as we struggle with the many deaths, losses and burdens in our own lives. Let’s face it, what are we like when we experience life’s difficul ties? Aren’t we often like the women looking for the living among the dead. When we have problems, we get mired in hope lessness and like the women, we look for a body rather than a risen Lord. We often know that the way we are doing things is not working but we won’t seek out creative and new ways of doing things. We will occupy our time thinking about the past and wishing we could reclaim that, rather than putting energy into seeking a hopeful future. The challenge for us at Easter is to live Easter lives all the year round - that is to live in the freedom and new life of the risen Christ. And that is not a superficial saying “well things will work out” or “things will be OK” but rather an active claiming of new life in Christ. Sure we have our problems. We have the Good Fridays to experience from time to time. But that is not where we are to stay. Christ is risen and he invites us to enter into that new life in every situation we encounter. Let us let Christ lead us forward. Let us walk in the light of his risen glory. HURON CHAPEL MISSIONARY CHURCH AUBURN PASTOR JAMES H. ALL VISITORS WELCOME over so let’s get on with life. That’s what the women who came to Jesus’ tomb were doing -- getting on with life and doing what had to be done. They had experi enced the death of a loved one and they were doing what their customs and rituals demanded. They arriv ed at the tomb bearing the spices with which they would annoint Jesus’ body. I imagine that they would have come quietly, still shocked and disheartened by the turn of events which took the life of their friend and leader. But they knew what must be done. Annoint- ing the body was part of facing the reality of death and grieving their loss. But suddenly their plans were decisively interrupted. There was no body. Instead the strange question of two dazzling messen gers, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?” If Jesus’ death had shocked them, his resurrection must have been even more as tounding. For suddenly everything was changed. Their expectations had been turned head over heels. Death was no longer the final Blyth CWL hears about Bluewater Centre The regular monthly meeting of St. Michael’s CWL was held at the home of Dorothy Van Steelandt on Monday, March 13. Eleven members answered the roll call. A reading “The World is mine”, was given by Theresa Egli. A guest speaker, Barb Forbes, who is a volunteer co-ordinator at the Blue water Centre was present. She showed slides and told what the time served was like for the young offenders. The treasurer’s report was read. For the Community Life committee Joan sent out a baby card. Anna did volunteer work for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Several children will be making their first Communion this year.
