Blyth lost this game in the third

This loss put Blyth against a fast
skating Tiverton team for the “B”
championship on Sunday.
Blyth was out to win as both
teams gave an all-out effort. Jeff
Cowan got Blyth going early in the

the Tiverton defence for Blyth’s

Blyth Atoms tied 1-1
in group final series
BY RUSTY BLADES
The Blyth Atoms opened their
group championship series against
Huron Park last Wednesday in
Blyth and skated away with a 5-2
win.
Henry Bos opened the scoring in
the first minute of the game as he
was sent in on a breakaway by
linemates Ryan Chamney and
Christopher Howson. Ryan Cham
ney gave Blyth a 2-0 lead late in the
period as he split the defence and
went in alone on the goalie after
receiving Jason Rutledge’s lead
pass.
Henry Bos scored the only goal
of the second period on a power
play as he took a Ryan Chamney
pass at the edge of the crease and
banged the puck home.
Ryan Chamney upped the lead to
4-0 early in period three as he
notched a breakaway goal with
assists to Henry Bos and Christo
pher Howson. Huron Park narrow
ed the lead to 4-2 but Blyth put the
overtime victory against Belgrave.
Teeswater captured the ‘C’ cham
pionship by defeating Brussels 4 to
3.
Blyth ‘A’ took the ‘B’ champion
ship with a 3 to 1 win over Tiverton.

game out of reach with a late goal.
Ryan Chamney took Henry Bos’s
pass at the Blyth blueline and
skated the rest of the way before
recording his hat-trick on a nice
shot to the stick side of the Huron
Park goalie.
Blyth took this solid 5-2 win and
headed for Huron Park last Satur
day hoping to take a two game lead
in the series.
Huron Park had other plans as
they completely outskated and
outworked Blyth in an embarrass
ing 7-0 whitewash. This game
should act as a wake-up call for
Blyth as they now realize that a
solid effort is required if the team
has any hope of success in this final
series. Hopefully they can get their
game back in order tonight, March
29, in Blyth and Friday night in
Huron Park.
