Orangeville at Palmerston Belgrave Novices won one and lost one in the houseleague tourna­ ment held in Palmerston last Thursday. In the first game Belgrave down­ ed Orangeville 5-0. Wayne Fenton gave Belgrave the lead with 38 seconds left in the first period when he scored from Jere­ my Campbell and Ryan Cook. Jeremy Campbell scored an un­ assisted goal midway through the second to stretch the lead then Luke Lockridge scored from Jenni­ fer Black to make it 3-0. In the third Vaughn Vincent scored from Ryan Cook and Wayne Fenton. David McBumey wrapped up the scoring for Belgrave when he scored a short-handed goal from Jason Curtis and David Piluke with 4:12 left in the game. Tom Pfieffer was kept busy in net as Clinton defeated Belgrave 7-3 in the second game. Belgrave took the early lead when Wayne Fenton scored an unassisted goal with 3:48 left in the first, then Jennifer Black scored from David McBurney less than two minutes later. Clinton scored two goals in less than a minute late in the second period to tie the game. Ryan Cook scored an unassisted goal with less than two minutes left in the period but Clinton came back a minute later to tie the score at the end of Blyth loses make-up game Blyth Novice “A” took to the ice last Wednesday, March 15 for a make-up game with Clinton. Blyth came out determined to finish league action on a high note, and out-played Clinton in the first period. The pressure paid off, as Blyth scored the first goal, Darryl Bromley finding the corner on a set-up by linemates Jeff Cowan and Michael Haggitt. Clinton battled back later in the period on a goal by Chad Chipchase to tie the game. The second period went scoreless as both teams raced end to end, Shane Burkholder doing a great job in net for Blyth. Blyth, short in manpower this game, lost the match in the third period, once again Chad Chipchase doing the damage. Despite the loss Blyth displayed some good skating. two periods. The third period belonged to Clinton as it scored four straight goals to win 7-3. A week earlier the Belgrave team defeated Blyth 8-5. Belgrave took a first period lead on two goals by Ryan Cook, the first assisted by Luke Lockridge and Wayne Fenton and the second assisted by Wayne Fenton. Jennifer Black made it 3-0 with a goal from Tom Pfieffer early in the second. Blyth struck back with two goals to make the score 3-2 at the end of two. Belgrave poured it on early in the third and put the game away. A minute into the period Ryan Cook scored from Wayne Fenton and Vaughn Vincent, then Wayne Fen­ ton scored from Ryan Cook less than a minute later. It took just one minute for Jason Curtis to score from Jennifer Black. Two minutes later it was Jennifer Black from Jason Curtis and Jeremy Camp­ bell. Finally with 5:52 left in the game Jeremy Campbell scored rom Jennifer Black to make it 8-2. With four minutes left in the game Blyth put on a scoring spurt with three goals but couldn’t get closer. Blyth was matched up against Paisley in first round action last Friday night. Blyth was all over Paisley and they romped to an 8-1 win. Henry Bos was high marks­ man on the evening as he earned player of the game award with five goals and one assist. Ryan Cham- ney, contributed two goals while assisting on three of Henry’s goals. Brad Anderson notched Blyth’s other goal as he opened the game scoring in the first minute of play and he also added an assist. Scott Arthur notched three as­ sists, Jason Rutledge added two assists and Christopher Howson chipped in with a single assist to complete the scoring highlights. Jonathan Collins, Rob Johnston and Tim Cowan played solid de­ fence in front of goalie Michael de Jong who narrowly missed record­ ing another shutout as Paisley broke the goose egg late in the game. This 8-1 win sent Blyth into the Championship round where they met up with Clifford on Saturday afternoon. Clifford eliminated Blyth from further play as they shaded Blyth 3-2. Scott Arthur opened the scoring in the final minute of the first period as he one-timed a perfect pass from Christopher Howson and Brad Anderson. Clifford took a 2-1 second period lead and increased it to 3-1 late in the third. Jason Rutledge got Blyth to within one goal with 31 seconds left in the game as he scored a short-handed goal after being set up by Henry Bos. Blyth pulled their goalie but they couldn’t mount another serious scoring drive and they were defeated 3-2. That ends the team’s tournament hopes for this season and all that is left is the group championship series that opens tonight (Wednes­ day) in Blyth against Huron Park.
