Absent were Joey Schmidt and coach Bruce Schmidt. Brussels Curling Club holds Spring Jitney The Brussels Curling Club held its Spring Jitney on Monday, March 13. There were four streets of ice in play. First place with 45 points went to Brad Speiran, Joyce Alexander, Steven Steiss and Rodney Bauer; Second prize with 36.75 points went to Stew Steiss, Lyle Martin, George Langlois and Murray Mc­ Carter; Third with 35.25 points was the team of Ross Veitch, Fran Bremner, Brian Alexander and Bob Steiss. Consolation went to the team of Mike Alexander, Madelene Steiss, Rob Veitch and Darrin Bauer; fourth, Orval Bauer, Velma Lock­ ing, Barb Alexander and Ruth Bauer; fifth, Mervvn Bauer, Yvonne Knight, Jason Kotsier and Ann Uhler; sixth, Ken McDonald, Marie Stute, Annette Lewington and Roger Evans; seventh, Bob Alexander, Karen Uhler, Grant Martin and Rich Veitch. Sports Blyth Industrial team wins tournament The Blyth Industrial Team cap­ tured their second title in two weeks by winning the Blyth Indus­ trial Tournament. The team recorded four straight victories to win the ‘A’ Division Championship. Blyth defeated Am- berly 14 to 4 in the opening game. In their second game Blyth defeated Port Albert 7 to 1. A 10 to 1 victory over Ayton sent Blyth to the finals against Goderich Park Little Lions tournament Saturday The Blyth Lions 18th Annual Little Lion Novice Hockey Tourna­ ment will bp held on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26. First round games are 9 a.m., Belgrave vs. Blyth ‘A’; 10, Brus­ sels vs. Ripley; 11, Clifford vs. Blyth ‘B’; 12, Teeswater vs. Tiver­ ton. Play continues throughout Satur­ day. The four championship games will be played Sunday afternoon. The last draw of the Mixed Curling ended recently. First place with 53 points went to the team of Brad Speiran, Jo-Ann McDonald, Lyle Martin and Myrtle Badley. Second place with 43 points went to Jim Patterson, Darlene Oldfield, Brian Warwick and Brian Alexan­ der. In third place with 42 points was the team of Bob Alexander, Teuni Smith, Bill Patterson and George Langlois. The last draw of the Ladies Afternoon Curling also ended re­ cently. First place with 38 points being won by Bev Stevenson, Nora Stephenson, Mary Ann Miners and Sharon Bromley. Second with 36 points went to Bonnie Lamble, Velma Locking, Vai Shortreed and Bonnie Jacklin. In third place with 35.5 points was the team of Evelyn Blake, Sharon Cowman, Linda Saur and Heidi McClure, fourth with 35 points went to Debbie Dickson, House. The final was a fast paced contest with both teams evenly matched. Two goals by Wayne McDougall and singles by Steve Siertsema and Steve Howson carried Blyth to a 4 to 2 victory and the championship. Steve Howson was selected tourna­ ment M.V.P. The team will again be travelling to St. Catherines April 7, 8 and 9 to participate in the OV Provincial Championships. Karen Uhler, Mary Huether and Brenda Cucksey. Some of the Brussels Junior Curlers travelled to Listowel to compete in a Bantam and Junior Bonspiel. In the Bantam competi­ tion, the team of Rob Veitch, Steven Steiss, Barb Alexander and Roger Evans won second prize. In the Junior competition, the team of Mike Alexander, Brian Alexander, Thomas Hurst and Nadene Bell also won second prize. In the WOSSA playdowns held in Glencoe, the boy’s team of Michael Alexander, Craig Workman, Brian Alexander, and George White won two of three games on the first day but were eliminated after losing their first game on the second day of the competition. The girl’s team of Jacqui Nichol, Janyelle Meh- ring, Michelle Ward and Barb Alexander also won two of three games on the first day of competi­ tion and they too were eliminated Peter Irwin leads BelgraveTykes Peter Irwin was at his scoring best for the Belgrave Tykes as they lost one and won one in recent play. On March 7 Peter scored the first four goals in the game, one assisted by Brian Sinclair, as Belgrave defeated Blyth 6-0. Rob­ bie McGee and Brian Sinclair scored the other goals. On Saturday Peter’s scoring wasn’t enough as Bayfield downed Belgrave 2-1 in Bayfield. Peter’s goal gave Belgrave a brief lead but Bayfield tied the game before the first period ended, then scored in the third for a close victory. after losing the first game on the second day of their competition. Belgrave lose 2 games at Young Canada The Belgrave Pee Wees bowed out in two straight at the Goderich Young Canada Tournament. WELLSLEY 6 - BELGRAVE 1 Tuesday morning, Belgrave played their first game of the tournament. The game was scoreless until late in the first period, when Wellsley scored five times in a two-and-a-half-minute stretch. They added another goal in the second period. Mark Robinson’s goal from Tim Coultes and Peter Gusso completed the scoring for the second period as well as the game. HENSALL 4 ■ BELGRAVE 1 Tuesday afternoon, Belgrave was eliminated from the tourna­ ment. Hensail scored twice in the first period and twice in the second period to go ahead 4-0.
