Wallace eliminates Blyth Novices The Blyth Novices gave it their all, but came up short in their third playoff series against a very strong Wallace team. Blyth made it to the semi-final by defeating Teeswater and Clifford. Blyth started the third series in Wallace and lost a 3-0 game. The Wallace goalie was the stopper in this game keeping Blyth off the scoreboard. Game two was held back in Blyth Sunday, March 12. Blyth came out flying determined to turn this series around. Blyth out-skated and out-shot this steady Wallace team, but once again could not get the puck behind the Wallace goalie, Reed Norman. Despite a great effort, once again Blyth found themselves behind 3-0 late in the third. Blyth pulled their Overloads winning streak ends at 10 The Blyth Radford’s Overloads Oldtimers winning streak stopped at 10 games with three defeats recently. The Overloads had defeated Ayton 17 to 4 to make it 10 games without a defeat. However, the Clinton Colts avenged an earlier loss with a 10 to 3 victory over the Overloads. Wayne McDougall scored the three Blyth goals. Blyth travelled to Clinton to play the Foul Ups and were again defeated 7 to 5. Blyth goals were scored by Barney Stewart, Bill McDougall, Bryan Black, Bruce Howson and Jim Button. The Overloads next dropped a 13 to 11 decision to the Seaforth Queens. Blyth goal scorers were Wayne McDougall, four; Gary Courtney, three; Bryan Black, two; Tany Van Bakkel, one; and Tom Jarrett, one. gave it their all displaying good playoff hockey. The Blyth Novice teams are now looking forward to the annual Blyth Little Lion Novice Tournament being held March 25 and 26. Blyth team wins B' championship The Blyth Industrial Hockey Team competed in the Ayton Hockey Tournament this past weekend. Blyth’s first game was against Fergus. Fergus opened the scoring early and backed by sensational goaltending held on to defeat Blyth 4 to 2. This sent the Blyth squad to the ‘B’ Division. Blyth’s second game was against Treadway which Blyth won 7 to 0. Goal scorers were Kevin Coultes, two; Barney Stewart, two; Ron Van Massenhoven, one; Steven Siert- sema, one; and Dave Bartliff, one. The semin-fmal game was be­ tween Blyth and Tiverton. Blyth won going away by a 9 to 0 score. Goal scorers were Kevin Coultes, three; Barney Stewart, two; Dennis Knox, two; Steve Siertsema, one; Wayne McDougall, one. Blyth played Walkerton for the ‘B’ Championship. Again Blyth’s strong defense held the opposition scoreless while Kevin Carter scor­ ed twice and singles went to Kevin Coultes, Steve Siertsema and Brian Bromley. The final score was 5 to 0. . Pat Cronin and Ken Siertsema showed the goaltending duties and both played extremely well reward­ ing shut-outs in the final three games. Team players were: Pat Cronin, Ken Siertsema, Dennis Knox, Dave Bartliff, Kevin Lee, Rick Jacklin, Jim Oster, Jeff Watson, Kevin Coultes, Steve Howson, Barney Stewart, Wayne McDougall, Kevin Carter, Steve Siertsema, Darryl Chalmers, Brian Bromley and Ron Van Massenhoven. Coach was Dave Cook, assistance coach, John Stewart; trainer, John Watson. goalie near the end of the game and they finally scored breaking the goalie’s shut-out. Darryl Bromley picked the corner, with Jeff Cowan and Michael Haggitt getting the assists. Hats off to this team, that Brussels Pre-Novices defeat Belmore 6-1 Once again the Brussels Pre­ Novices, 4 and 5 year olds, played Belmore last Friday night. The outcome was much the same as last week. The stronger Brussels team flew out the starting gate with a breakaway goal by Nolan Krotz at the 18:50 mark. Belmore however got that goal back to tie it 1-1. Chris Coulter broke the tie with his first goal of the game on a pass from r Business & Professional Directory Mathew McLellan. Justin Ruttan swooped around the net to make it three to one for Brussels. Chris Coulter got his second goal from Joel Kellington in a scramble in front of the net. Chris completed the hat-trick on another pass from Joel. Brussels kept the pressure on as Mathew McLellan finished out the scoring on a pass from Josh Gropp to make it 6-1.
