Committee requests money Continued from page 1 be turned around and get the arena back into good financial shape. Reeve Gord Workman felt that while the Brussels Council would probably agree to the budget the Recreation Committee must start making money on its own. Mr. Nedman concurred, stating that he certainly didn’t want to have to approach councils every year for financial help. A mention was made by Gerry Wheeler concerning the fact that the Catering Group has paid the insurance and should they fold this would be one more debt facing the Committee. Commenting on the upcoming Fun Fest Mr. Wheeler warned that though it is being held to raise money for the arena the Committee shouldn’t count on it. “If we don’t receive support we won’t continue with it. That is all there is to it,” he said. Reeve Workman suggested lobbying for government funding, maintaining that the money is not being made like it used to be. He stated that if Blyth could receive $900,000 then Brussels should be able to get $600,000. Ralph Devlin agreed. “Get these small municipalities together and ask for money. They (the govern ment) aren’t going to volunteer.” It was noted that the 12 year old arena could see some major ex penses in the next 10 years, so the Committee would like to see five percent of the future budget put into a reserve fund, but first the money must be found. Mr. New man asked the Council’s consider the proposal. “If it’s not OK we will have to try and come up with another solution,” he said.
