Brussels Peewees lead Blyth in WOAA playoff Brussels Pee Wees lead the WOAA playoff series with Blyth 2-1 going into the fourth game of the series in Brussels Tuesday night. Brussels had taken a 2-0 lead in the series before Blyth rebounded Monday night for a victory. On Feb. 27 in Blyth, Brussels took an early lead and skated to a 5-2 win. Tim Machan got Brussels off to a good start when 4:25 into the game he scored from Wayne Alexander. In the second, Brussels scored two more before Blyth could get on the scoreboard. Brett Clarkson scored from Daniel Pearson and Matt Lee scored unassisted to build the lead to 3-0. Jerrod Button scored from Mike Bromley to get Blyth on the scoreboard but Wayne Alexander scored an unassisted goal to restore the Brussels margin. Tim Lyons brought Blyth close Belgrave Atoms win 2 Belgrave Atoms played three games with two wins and one loss. Saturday, Feb. 25 Belgrave met up with Goderich. The two teams gave it all they had. The first period Jim Piluke and Brent Robinson as well as Corey Moran assisted by Wayne Fenton gave Belgrave the lead. Corey Moran added one more in the second period. Brent Robin­ son and Corey Moran added two more to make the final score Belgrave 6, Goderich 3. On Wednesday night the boys travelled to Hensall. The boys gave it a good try but just couldn’t make things work in their favour. Brent Robinson put Belgrave on the scoreboard, then Hensall took over adding five for themselves making the final score 5-1 for Hensall. On Saturday morning Belgrave travelled to Blyth. The boys were looking for a win and did just that. Corey Moran got it started in the first period, then two minutes later Corey Moran assisted by Wayne Fenton gave Belgrave a 2-0 lead. Then Blyth got on the scoreboard. In the second David McBurney assisted by Aaron Coultes added another goal. As did Corey Moran assisted by Brian Marks. In the third period Aaron Coultes assisted by David McBurney scored again, making the final score Belgrave 6, Blyth 3. going into the third period when he scored from Craig Roulston and Mike McNichol to make the score 4-2. But Brussels scored the only goal of the third as Tim Machan scored from Matt Lee to round out the scoring. Friday night in Brussels Matt Lee scored his fourth goal in the game vfith only 1:34 left in the third to snatch a 5-4 win for Brussels. Brett Clarkson had given Brus­ sels a lead just 1:53 into the game when he scored from Ryan Finch and Matt Lee for the only goal of the period. Mike Bromley tied the score for Blyth early in the second with Jerrod Button and Conrad Bos drawing assists. Four minutes later Mike Bromley gave Blyth its first lead in the series as he scored an unassisted goal. But Matt Lee struck for Brussels just 19 seconds later with Wayne Alexander and Brad Beuer- mann assisting to tie the game. Before the period ended Matt Lee, assisted by Brad Beuermann gave Brussels the lead again. Early in the third the same combination clicked towiden the margin to 4-2, but Blyth struck twice within a minute to climb back into a tie. Defenceman Mike Mc­ Nichol scored from Tyler Craig then Jerrod Button scored an unassisted goal to make the game exciting. But Matt Lee sent the home fans out happy when he scored from Ryan Finch and Tim Machan to give Brussels the win. Monday night in Blyth, Mike Bromley scored three goals in third period to blow open a game and take its first win in series. Picking up where he left the tie the off MARIE MORRISON Mrs. Marie Morrison, a resident of Geri-Care Nursing Home in Harriston passed away on February 28, 1989 at Palmerston and District Hospital in her 93rd year. She was born on June 28, 1896 in Ashfield Township, Huron County, the youngest daughter of Wm. G. and Elizabeth (Twamley) Sher­ wood. She was an accomplished dress­ maker, working in Lucknow until her marriage to Robt. Mclnnes of Kinloss Township on April 9, 1919. They lived in Kinloss Township for a short time, then in Ashfield Township, moving to a farm west of Teeswater in 1930. Mr. Mclnnes passed away on October 6, 1961. On November 22, 1968 she married C. A. (Al) Morrison of Teeswater where they lived until his passing on May 19, 1977. She was a resident of Copeland Lodge in Wingham from 1980 until last fall when she moved to Geri-Care Nursing Home. Mrs. Morrison is survived by a daughter, Mary Thornton and her husband John of Gorrie, a son, Dan Mclnnes and his wife Anne of Blyth and a daughter-in-law, Largaret Mclnnes of Teeswater, 13 grand­ children and eight great-grand­ grandchildren. She was predeceas­ ed by a son William in 1986 and by three sisters, Annie, Mrs. Adam Johnston; Bertha, Mrs. James McWhinney; Evelyn, Mrs. Alex Watson and a brother, Alfred Sherwood. Mrs. Morrison was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Tees­ water. Her minister, Rev. Wm. Baird, conducted the funeral ser­ vice at the McPherson Funeral Home, Teeswater at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 3. Final resting place is the Teeswater-Culross Cemetery. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Donald Thornton, Allan Thornton, Murray Thornton, Kenneth Hutchi­ son, Robert Mclnnes and Dale Mclnnes. Floral tributes were car­ ried by granddaughters, Mae Hutchison, Linda Mclnnes and Nancy Mclnnes. Friday night, Matt Lee gave Brus­ sels the lead only 1:13 into the game with Greg Fritz drawing the assist. Mike Bromley brought Blyth back before the end of the period with Brian VanSteelandt assisting. In the second Ryan Finch, assist­ ed by Todd Machan and Brett Clarkson gave Brussels a lead it held until with 1:53 left in the period Mike Bromley scored from Conrad Bos to tie the game. In the third Blyth came out gunning with Mike Bromley taking only nine seconds to give Blyth the lead with assists from Conrad Bos and Jerrod Button. Bromley struck again with an unassisted goal with 8:03 left, then three minutes later scored his fifth goal of the game from Jerrod Button to make the score 5-2. More sports on page 22.
