to see you home real soon.
Sympathy is extended to Dave

The Brussels Starlet Baton group
and moms thoroughly enjoyed the
Ice Capades in Kitchener last
Saturday, where they saw Eliza
beth Manley skate and had lunch at
McDonald’s. Their teacher
Michelle McNeil thanks all the
moms for their help in making it
such an enjoyable outing.
There was a good time had by all
at Oddfellow Rebekah Euchre with
the 12 tables in play.
Prize winners were: June Jack-
lin, Roberta Simpson, Alf Nichols,
Mrs. G. Nicholson; lone hands,
Kay Duncan and Ron Cunningham;
lucky cup, Fred Hunter.
A recent call to one Brussels
home proved to be an adventure in
how to attract wild birds to outdoor
feeders.
Both seed and suet feeders are
located in several places on the
verandah and in the yard. The back
verandah has a cut evergreen tied
to one of the posts for protection
purposes. Juncos, chickadees,
house finches, purple finches,
American finches, woodpeckers,
nut hatches, the occasional gros
beak and of course, blue jays,
starlings, sparrows and squirrels
make good use of the facilities.
Others in Brussels also play host
to the birds. The Carpentiers have
a flock of 20 or more morning doves
at their feeders daily. The doves
wait until a sparrow has checked
out the feeder for security purposes
and then fly in for a mid-morning
snack. Rev. Charles says the
squirrels have not had any success
with the peanuts in the shell as the
blue jays and starlings make off
with them as soon as they are put
out.
Ruth and Clayton Sauve who also
feed the birds noted that they have
not had any cardinals this winter
but they have been seen in the
swamp at the edge of town. Ruth
remarked that three wild Canada
Geese are feeding regularly at the
Kitchen farm. Other sightings have
included blue herons and a king
fisher on the telephone wire at the
centre side road bridge. And what
is involved in feeding these birds?
To date in the one case - over two

hundred pounds of small black

one package of philler seed proved
to be too expensive: it all disap

a one-time investment. Now to
watch for the horned larks, robins,
geese flying north and the swal

that it takes a “lot of hard work and
plenty of dollars” but, anyone can
