Belgrave Tykes win 3, lose 1 in recent play Belgrave Tykes reeled off three straight wins in the last two weeks before suffering a close loss to Huron Park on the weekend. On February 14 in Belgrave, they defeated Lucknow 10-5. Brian Sin­ clair, Robbie McGee, Tim Robin­ son, Mathew Beck and Peter Irwin all scored in the first period for Belgrave. In the second period Robbie McGee scored then Peter Irwin scored four straight goals for Belgrave. February 18 the team visited Zurich and came home with a 7-2 win. Zurich struck first scoring a goal midway through the first period but Tim Robinson brought Belgrave back with a goal assisted by Rob McGee and Craig Marks. Rob McGee scored from Mat- thew Beck and Tyler Fenton to give Belgrave a 2-1 lead at the end of the first. Zurich scored a goal in the second to tie the game, but Belgrave scored two goals in the last minute of the period to take the lead back and they proceeded to keep, it. Peter Irwin scored the first goal from Justin Black and Justin Campbell, then Brian Sinclair scor­ ed from Tim Robinson and Rob McGee. In the third, Justin Campbell scored his first goal, assisted by Justin Black and Brian Sinclair. Peter Irwin then scored from Justin Black and Brian Sinclair and Rob­ bie McGee made it 7-2 from Tim Robinson and Tyler Fenton. Wednesday in Belgrave, Tom Pfieffer had a busy first period in goal as Belgrave defeated Wing­ ham 5-3. Wingham built up a 3-0 lead before Belgrave scored its first goal late in the first. Tim Robinson scored from Craig Marks. Justin Campbell scored three straight goals in the second period to give Belgrave the lead. His first, was assisted by Tyler Fenton and Curtis Knight, while Steven Mc­ Burney assisted on the second and Matthew Bromley on the third. Tim Robinson scored from Justin Black to complete the scoring. Saturday a third period come­ back by Belgrave fell short as Huron Park won 9-7 in Belgrave. Huron Park scored three first period goals while only Peter Irwin, assisted by Craig Marks could score for Belgrave. In the second period Huron Park hit for four more goals before Belgrave could fight back. Justin Campbell scored from Tyler Fenton with 3:09 left in the second to give Belgrave some life, then Peter Irwin scored an unassisted goal to make the score 7-3 at the end of two periods. Huron Park scored again just over a minute into the third but Belgrave fought back. Brian Sin­ clair scored an unassisted goal, then Tim Robinson clicked from Peter Irwin to close the gap to 8-5. Huron Park added one more goal before Justin Campbell and Peter Irwin scored for Belgrave for a 9-7 score. Belgrave Novices beat Clinton,russels If not for the Zurich team, the last two weeks would have been very happy ones for the Belgrave Novices. As it was two lop-sided losses to Zurich left the team with a 2-2 record. On February 16, Belgrave hosted Clinton and scored a 6-3 win. Belgrave struck for four first period goals and Clinton never recovered. Wayne Fenton started the scoring parade with a goal less than three minutes into the game, assisted by Jeremy Campbell. Jennifer Black made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal, then Jason Curtis scored from Ryan Cook, and Ryan Cook scored from Jeremy Campbell. Clinton got one goal back before the end of the period to trail 4-1. Atom Houseleaguers win Brussels Atom Houseleague team travelled to Wingham Feb. 19 and came home with a 6-6 tie. Wingham took an early lead but Jeff Elliott scored from Gene Johnston and Mike Dauphin to tie the score at 9:15 of the first period. Wingham took the lead again but Gene Johnston scored from Shane Wilson to tie the score at the end of the first period. Mike Dauphin gave Brussels the lead when he converted a set up from Gene Johnston just 31 se­ conds into the second period. Wingham tied the score late in the period but Brussels regained the lead when Shawn Johnston scored an unassisted goal with 2:24 left on the clock. Troy Williams gave Brussels a two-goal bulge a minute later with Gene Johnston assisting. But early in the second Wingham took over the scoring. They scored the first goal a minute and a half into the period to close the gap, then tied the score five minutes later and took the lead five minutes after that. It took a goal by Gene Johnston, assisted by Troy Wil­ liams with 52 seconds left on the clock to salvage the tie for Brus­ sels. Clinton scored the only goal of the second period, but two quick goals early in the third by Belgrave ended any hope of a comeback. Ryan Cook scored the first from Jason Curtis, then David McBur­ ney scored from Jennifer Black. Clinton scored one more goal in the third but it was too little and too late. It was a different story when Zurich visited on Feb. 20 however as the visitors went home with a 6-2 win. Wayne Fenton scored from Luke Lockridge and Jason Curtis from Jennifer Black to give Belgrave an early lead, but from there on the shooters went cold for Belgrave and Zurich stormed back with three unanswered goals in each of the second and third period. Thursday the teams met again in Zurich with the home team having even more of an edge. Zurich scored three in the first and five in the second, before Belgrave finally found the net in the third with Davie McBurney’s unassisted goal, with 10:55 left. Two minutes later Wayne Fenton scored from Ryan Cook and then Dave McBurney added another goal to make the score more respectable.
