Slow starts leave Crusaders trailing Lions Head BY LOIS McARTER Lions Head arrived in Brussels Friday night for the first game in their best three-out-of-five WOAA Intermediate series against the Crusaders. Lions Head wasn’t tired after the long trip down and the Crusaders Bly th Atoms lead Zurich series BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Atoms opened their best three out of five group play off series against Zurich last Wednes day, February 22 with an impres sive 5-1 win. Zurich opened the scoring mid way through period one but Blyth evened the count before the period expired. Tim Cowan's point shot was tipped in front by Christopher Howson to Henry Bos. Henry was positioned perfectly to jam the puck past a fallen goaltender. Blyth increased their lead to 3-1 in the second period as Henry Bos and Ryan Chamney combined for two unanswered goals. Henry set Ryan up for the go ahead goal on a screen shot and then Ryan scored a short-handed goal for a 3-1 lead with Henry garnering another as sist. Blyth added two more goals in the third period to blow the game wide open. Ryan Chamney record ed the hat-trick on a fine individual rush as he was set up with a break-out pass from Jonathan Col lins. Jonathan also started Blyth’s final goal in motion as he fed Christopher Howson a nice clearing pass. Christopher spotted Henry Bos breaking at the blueline and hit him with the puck. Henry broke in alone from the blueline and slid the puck into the far corner. Although Zurich pressed in the third period, Blyth’s goaltending was equal to the task as the Atoms won 5-1. The series continues this week with game two in Zurich on Monday night and the third game back in Blyth on Thursday, March 2 at 7 o’clock. The series could be tied at one game each for this third game in Blyth or, if you are an optimist, you better bring along a broom as the Atoms could be in a position to sweep the series. QUOTE OF THE WEEK: Sports caster Bill Good Jr., after a bad game by the Vancouver Canucks: Houseleague Atoms lose to Hensall Brussels Houseleague Atoms found a visit to Hensall not the most welcoming thing Wednesday as they came out on the short end of an 8-2 score. Brussels took an early lead as Shawn Johnston scored midway through the first period on an unassisted goal. Gene Johnston made it 2-0 with another unassisted goal three minutes later. But from there on it was all Hensall as the home team scored once before the period ended, then added four unanswered goals in the second and three in the third. Saturday, the team had better luck hosting Clinton and playing to a 3-3 tie. Jeff Lewington gave Brussels a lead from Shawn Johnston midway through the second period. Clinton did all its scoring in a two minute span late in the second, building up a 3-1 lead. In the third, however, Brussels started to fight back when Shawn Johnston scored from Troy Wil liams with 9:28 left, then the same players combined for another goal with 6:26 left to gain the tie. were obviously not up for the game after their resounding win over Arthur. The visitors slipped their first goal in just 17 seconds into the period and added the second a little over a minute later. They scored two more quick goals with 11:09 “If the Canucks had played in your backyard Saturday night, you would have closed the drapes.’’ Let Cook’s put New-Life into your feed program. / Cook’s is pleased to announce we can now deliver the complete line of high quality New-Life feeds from our 6 locations.
