Area skaters do well at Inter-Club competition A presentation to be proud of was executed by Brussels figure skater, Shannon Craig, at the Inter-Club competition last Sunday in Goderich, according to Shann­ on’s coach, Mrs. Faye MacDonald. Shannon, who is the daughter of Graeme and Helen Craig of RR 1, Walton finished sixth out of 12 competitors after her figures. Mrs. MacDonald stated, “We were real­ ly quite pleased. We were hoping for the top half and that was exactly where she was at this point.’’ However, Shannon then went on to the Free Skate competition where she finished in first place actually beating last year’s first place competitor. This moved her to second overall advancing her to the second round of qualifying for the All-Ontario Championships to be held next week in Woodstock. The winners of this event will then continue to the championship con­ test in Grimsby sometime in This little baby girl seemed oblivious to all the excitement backstage at the Brussels Carnival. Guest of honour, Mickey Mouse [Lanette Todd] just couldn’t resist the opportunity to stop and visit with a young “fan”. March. Shannon also finished second overall in her Preliminary Interpre­ tive Free Skate. “This was Shann­ on’s first year at the Pre-Juvenile Ladies Level. She really skated well and was up against excellent skaters. I’m proud of her.” remark­ ed Mrs. MacDonald. Other Brussels skaters involved in the Inter-Club North competition were Sheri Huether and Stacey Hahn. The girls were second in their flight which advanced them to the finals where they finished fifth overall in Preliminary Dance. Stacey also competed solo at the Preliminary level, which is one level below Shannon. She was fourth in her flight for figures and fifth in her Free Skate. In addition to Brussels the other clubs involved in the Inter-Club North competition are: Blyth, Clin­ ton, Goderich, Listowel, Lucknow, Milverton, Mitchell, Seaforth, St. Mary’s, Stratford and Wingham. There were four participants in the contest from the Blyth Figure Skating Club. In the Preliminary Ladies Combination Event, Erin Bolger finished sixth. Erin also competed in the Preliminary Inter- pfetive Free Skate. She was in flight one where she came in ninth. Also in this category was Cathy Nesbitt. Cathy was in flight num­ ber two and finished fourth. In the Pre-Juvenile Ladies Com­ bination, Cathy Nesbitt ended in 10th place while Angela McCool and Kim Richmond were in fourth position in the Preliminary Dance Event.
