Grasby heads Belgrave choir
The choir members of Knox
United Church, Belgrave and their
husbands and wives held a social
evening and their annual meeting
on Monday night, February 20 at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ross
WMS hears of
hymn writer's
life
The W.M.S. held their meeting
at the home of Mrs. Robena
McBurney February 21. Mrs. Ivy
Cloakey presided and opened with
a call to worship.
Mrs. Margaret Siertsema read
scripture from I Corinthians chap
ter 13. Mrs. Lottie Scott read a
meditation entitled “Hidden in our
hearts”. Mrs. Cloakey led in
prayer. Roll call was answered by a
Bible verse on “Love”. The offer
ing was received and dedicated.
Mrs. Garner Nicholson gave a
report on the annual meeting held
in Wingham. Mrs. McBurney read
the minutes of the last meeting and
Mrs. Cloakey gave the financial
report.
Mrs. Nicholson read a story on
the life of Francis Havergale, a
hymn writer, who wrote such lovely
hymns as “Take my Life and let it
be” and “Who is on the Lord’s
side?”
Mrs. McBurney read the life
story of William Barclay. Mrs.
Hazel Dalrymple read “The sign of
the Cross”. Mrs. Siertsema read
the poem “The touch of the
Master’s Hand”.
Mrs. Cloakey closed the meeting
with prayer and lunch was served
by the hostess.
Sale committee
planning already
The garage sale committee of
Blyth United Church met on
February 20. The chairperson for
this year is Diane Wasson.
The 14th annual garage sale will
once again take place on Friday
evening, May 12 from 7 - 9 p.m.
This will be the third year for a
Friday night sale. It has proven to
be very popular and has become an
evening’s entertainment for the
whole family.
Area residents are asked to start
saving any used articles for this
year’s sale (no clothes). The com
mittee is also collecting rags.
During the month of March, rags
may be left at Blyth United Church.
The Church has year round
storage. Anyone who has anything
to be picked up should call Diane
Wasson at 523-9343 or Candice
Howson at 523-4508.

After a short choir practice, the
game of Hearts was played with the
following people winning prizes:

business meeting conducted by the

13 tables at Belgrave euchre
Thirteen tables were in play at
the weekly euchre which was held
in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave, Febru
ary 22.
Winners were: high lady, Mrs.
Jas. R. Coultes; low lady, Mrs.
Brenda Perrie; closest birthday,
Mrs. Stanley Black; lucky draw,
Procter read the secretary-treasur
er’s report. The officers for the
coming year will be: President,

Couple returns from trip
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Engel enjoy
ed a two-week trip to Florida
recently.
Miss Renata Hunke, Kitchener,
visited Mr. and Mrs. Allan Fretz on
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Conley visited
Mr. and Mrs. Bert van Donkers-
goed, West Montrose on Tuesday
evening. Mrs. Ethel Hudson, Lis-
towel visited the Conleys Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Stevenson
spent the weekend in Toronto with
members of their family.

Brussels One held its meeting at
Kathy Bridge’s on Monday, Febru
ary 13.
The members started the meet
ing off saying the 4-H pledge. After
they did the roll call they filled the
blanks in. Then they all took part in
reading a section in meeting two.
After they were done reading some
people finished their purling. They
then picked out what they were
going to do for a home project.
When they were all done they
finished the meeting by saying the
last of the pledge.
