Phone 526-7589 Auburn syrup producer gets $16,495 grant Wl hears about Philippines An Auburn area maple syrup producer has been awarded a grant of $16,495 to help improve efficien­ cy and quality, Agriculture and Food Minister Jack Riddell an­ nounced recently. William and Susanne Robinson, RR 2, Auburn, received the grant under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food’s Small Food Processors Assistance program. “With this grant, which will cover one-third of the cost of the project, the Robin­ sons will be able to purchase a reverse osmosis machine, which will significantly reduce the energy costs in the production of maple Hymn sing held at Knox United Rev. Snihur pronounced the Benediction and the benedic­ tion response ended the service. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday, February 21 at the Com­ munity Hall. Members were treated to ice cream and cake by the hostesses Mrs. James Carne, Mrs. Viola Raithby and Mrs. James Schnei­ der. The lucky plate was held by Tina Empey and the lucky cup by Jean Plaetzer. The topic was “Citizenship and World Affairs” and Mrs. James Carne introduced the guest speaker Rev. Ramirez of the Blyth United Church who gave a talk and showed slides of his homeland the Philip­ pines. Stated that there are 54.5 million people in the country. Neighbours and friends enjoyed an evening playing euchre and lost heir. 6 tables at Auburn euchre There were six tables in play at the euchre party held Tuesday evening, February 21 at the Com­ munity Hall. Prizes went to: high man, Jack Lockart; low man, Gordon Gross; high lady, Jane Giousher; low lady, Penny Giousher; novelty prize, Harold McClinchey. Euchre parties are held every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. ment and self help groups. She ■showed a video on “Doing It Ourselves”. She was thanked by Erma Cartwright. The president Mrs. Erma Cart­ wright presided for the meeting. The minutes of the last meeting were read by Betty Archambault in the absence of Kay Lapp. Treasur­ er’s report was given by Tina Empey. Jean Plaetzer gave the report on the 4H club and also gave the card report. Each person gave one dollar for “Pennies for Friend­ ship”. Roll call was answered which was “One reason we should appreciate living in Canada”. The meeting closed with the Queen. Nancy Park spoke words of congratulations and best wishes on behalf of all present to Beth and a beautiful cake was presented to her along with many cards wishing her happiness in the future. Beth thanked Seers family for their kindness and hospitality and to all her friends who came to celebrate with her. A delicious lunch was served by Maxine Seers, Nancy and Greg Park, Bernice Anderson, Leone Robertson and Carol Reinink. Orchids topic for Horticultural Society The Horticulture meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 8 at 8 p.m. at the Community Hall. There will be a speaker on Orchid Culture.
