Entertainment CHSS wins People's Choice Award Six area secondary schools parti cipated in the Fourth Annual Drama Festival at the Blyth Mem orial Hall on February 17 and 18. The first performance was “First Choice”, a two-act play that center ed around the lives of two couples immediately following the outbreak of World War III. The students of Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton received the award for Best Visualization Execution and dress ing of a set for this production. They were also the first recipient of the People’s Choice Award, for the best all-around production. The second play was presented by Cambridge. It was about a young man who tries to take his own life after a failed relationship and career, by jumping from a ledge. However, instead of landing he finds himself in the land of the “King of Mice”. This was an original play written by the stu dents especially for the festival. They were awarded the “most outstanding production” as well as an award for “best ensemble playing.” In F.E. Madill’s production of “Garage Sale”, the Drama Club showed how two people had to help fate along. They received a men tion for “creating and maintaining the mood of the play.” The first entry on Saturday was Listowel District Secondary School’s, “Mentors”. They receiv ed an acting award for a chorale group as well as an acting award to Lee-Anne Doan who played the part of Satania in this drama about illusion and reality. An acting award also went to Perry Zimmerman of Norwell Dis trict Secondary School in Palmer ston. Perry played the part of Burt in this school’s production entitled, “Shrinking.” The play which deals with human relationships, was written by Jennifer Cressey. Jenni fer also acted in and directed the play. She was the recipient of the award for “outstanding contribu tion to a play”. In “Thin Ice” the problems of being a teenager were illustrated by the Improv Club of Saugeen District Secondary School in Port Elgin. Alan Milroy won an award for his portrayal of Steven Ridge house. Following the performan ces, the adjudicators, Lorna Wilson and Jerry Franken, shared their thoughts and observations with the young participants. In addition to the productions students attended several work shops on Friday morning at Central Huron Secondary School. Rob Seale demonstrated his skills as a stage combat instructor, which Rob describes as “the illusion of vio lence with the practice of absolute safety.” Blyth Festival’s Artistic Director, Katherine Kaszas, worked with her husband, freelance cinematogra pher, Paul Dunlop. Together the two explained the differences be- tween acting and directing in live theatre or for a camera. Lorna Wilson also conducted a workshop drawing on her wide theatre experience. Katherine Kaszas said the class es were an excellent opportunity for the young people to meet and mingle, sharing common interests and forming new friendships. As sists went to Brian Tenpas (2), Brian Deitner, Troy Pocaluyka, Paul Montgomery, Dave Stephen son (2), and Kevin Deitner. Arthur added two more goals in the last five minutes of the period with the game ending 17-7 for the Crusaders. This eliminated Arthur from any further play this Special mention goes Cousins who scored four the game with Kevin Kevin McArter and Dave Mont gomery each getting hat-tricks. It would be awfully nice to see a lot more players like the Arthur captain in the next series and in the league. He was an ardent hockey player and a gentleman. I understand the next series is against Lions Head and will proba bly get underway this weekend.
