A. playoff action in Blyth Saturday. It was the story of the game as Blyth dominated the early action but couldn’t score and had to come up with a last minute goal to salvage a 3-3 tie. Pee Wees win over Hensall THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 1989. PAGE 15. Blyth Novices gain thrilling 3-3 tie The Belgrave Pee Wees played two exhibition games against Hen­ sall recently. BELGRAVE 7 - HENSALL 6 January 28, the Belgrave team scored early and often. Peter Gusso scored an unassisted goal, five second into the game. Brandon Coultes then scored from Doug Wilson. Peter Gusso scored his second goal from Brad Robinson. Mark Robinson made it 4-0 from Brad Robinson, all before the four minute mark of the first period. Hensall added a goal to complete the scoring for the period. In the second period, Hensall tallied first. Mark Robinsons goal Belgrave Novices score 5 wins Belgrave Novices scored five wins and one loss in the last two weeks, including three wins in a tournament in Howick on the weekend. January 23 Belgrave hosted Brussels “B” team and scored a 6-4 win. Forward David McBurney scored an unassisted goal with 5:08 left in the first period to give Belgrave the lead but Brussels tied the score. Wayne Fenton scored from Ryan Cook in the second. Defenceman Brian Sinclair scored from Michael McBurney before the second period ended. Belgrave Atoms edge Huron Park The Belgrave Atoms found them­ selves in Huron Park on Saturday. The first period was pretty slow Beginners have ice problems The last two weeks found Bel­ grave Beginners not able to have skating. First it was too warm which made the ice too soft and last week it was too stormy. But on February 15, Julia Hop­ per, Harmony Spivey, Garrett Knight, Matthew Cameron, T.J. Marks, Jeffery Beyersbergen, T. J. Hopper, Nathan Spivey, Paul Walker, Lisa Black, Matthew Bromley, Ryan Moran and Kenny McCracken plan on getting a chance to go again as well as having their pictures taken. from Brad Robinson gave Belgrave a 5-2 lead. Hensall added two more goals and Mark Robinson scored an unassisted goal to complete his hat-trick and give Belgrave 6-4 lead after two periods. In the third, Hensall again opened the scoring. Brad Robinson scored from Mark Robinson but Hensall again scored. They pulled their goaltender but Belgrave pre­ vented them from tieing the game. BELGRAVE 3 - HENSALL 2 February 1, Belgrave tra­ velled to Hensall for the return match. Hensall took a 2-0 first period lead. In the second period Peter David McBurney scored twice in the third, the first unassisted and the second from Jason Curtis then set up Jennifer Black for Bel­ grave’s final goal. Corey Campbell and Trevor Wilson scored two goals each for Brussels. On January 26 Belgrave hosted the Blyth “B” team and ran up a 9-2 score. Jamie Black started the scoring for Blyth with seven min­ utes left in the first period but Wayne Fenton replied with 35 seconds left in the period for Belgrave. Ryan Cook scored two straight goals in the second, the first from with neither team getting on the scoreboard. The second period they came alive with Huron Park getting on the scoreboard first which woke the Belgrave boys up. Brent Robinson got on the scoreboard first assisted by Eugene Fenton. In the third period Aaron Coultes added one more, assisted by Brian Marks, as did Jim Piluke assisted by Andrew Potter. The boys were not happy with the little lead they had because Huron Park got one more making it 3-2. Belgrave gave it all they had with Brian Marks adding one more, assisted by Robinson and Fenton. The boys had lots of energy left but the clock ran out. Thanks to excellent goal­ tending by Chris Piluke. The final score was Belgrave 4, Huron Park 2. Gusso scored from Aaron Coultes to cut the lead to 2-1. Mark Robinson tied the score from Brad Robinson to finish the second period. Hensall took some penal­ ties late in the third period with Brad Robinson scoring with three seconds left in the game to give Belgrave the win. Mike Golley played very well, making key saves in the second and third periods. Brad Robinson play­ ed his usual consistent game despite not feeling well during the game. Tim, Aaron and Brandon Coultes, Kyle and Corey Moran, Doug Wilson, Peter Gusso, Mark Olson, Mark and Brent Robinson all played very well. Jeremy Campbell and the second from Wayne Fenton. Wayne Fen­ ton scored.with just six seconds left in the period for Belgrave. In the third David McBurney scored four straight goals to salt the game away. The first was unassisted, the second from Luke Lockridge, the third from Jennifer Black and the fourth from Jeremy Campbell and Jennifer Black. Ryan Cook scored from Jason Curtis to round out Belgrave’s scoring. January 28 Hensall handed Bel­ grave a 7-2 setback in Belgrave. Ryan Cook scored one goal and assisted Wayne Fenton on Brus­ sels’ only other goal. Saturday in a novice tournament in Howick, Belgrave scored a close 6-5 win. Jason Curtis scored Bel­ grave’s first goal with 5:15 left in the first period with David McBur- Continued on page 22 Brussels Novice Houseleaguers beat Bayfield Brussels Novice Houseleague team edged Bayfield 2-1 in a game played Feb. 4 at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Cen­ tre. Trevor Wilson scored from Brett Fischer and Jamie Thomas early in the first period for Brussels’ first goal. Brett Fischer scored from Amber Ruttan with 1:47 left in the second period for the final Brussels goal. The Blyth Novice “A” team is playing Teeswater, in the first W.O.A.A. playoff series, of the players young careers. The first game went end to end. Great passing and good goaltend­ ing at both ends, kept the score close. The visitors took the lead early in the first period on a goal by Aubin Ross for Teeswater. Blyth swarmed the Teeswater net the whole first period, displayed great passing, but could only score one goal. Michael Haggitt blasted a shot past the Teeswater goalie, Russell Hurst, to tie the game. He was set up by some pretty passing from Jeff Cowan and Darryl Brom­ ley. In the second period Blyth went ahead, on a goal by Jeff Cowan, assisted by Dan Chamney as Blyth kept up the pressure. Teeswater did not die, they battled back scoring two goals to take the lead at the end of the second period 3 to 2, on goals by Aubin Ross and Eric Millen. Belgrave Tykes beat Clinton 19-8 Belgrave Tykes scored early and often as they roared to a 19-6 win over Clinton in a game played in Belgrave January 27. After Clinton got off to a fast start with an early goal, defence­ man Brian Sinclair came back to tie the score just 1:28 into the game. Four minutes later he came back with another goal. From there on Pete Irwin took over, producing seven goals in the first and one early in the second for the winners. Brian Sinclair added another goal before Pete Irwin went on another scoring spree, adding four more goals. The two stars combined for another goal as Pete Irwin set up Brian Sinclair before Pete Irwin completed his scoring with his 13th goal of the game. He wasn’t completely through though as he set up Brian Sinclair for another before Brian scored his sixth goal, unassisted, with just 19 seconds left to complete the scoring. January 28 the Tykes hosted Bayfield and scored an impressive NOTICE PUBLIC MEETING Due to the abandonment of the C.P. rail lines from Goderich to Guelph, the area is being considered as a multi-use recreation corridor. The Council of the Township of Hullett is holding a public meeting on Friday, February 24, 1989 at 8:00 P.M. at the Township Municipal Building, Londesboro, to hear any concerns ratepayers may have along the proposed corridor. The game went end to end, with Shane Burkholder playing net for Blyth, coming up with some big saves. Blyth came so close, so many times, the fans had trouble sitting down. Finally their efforts paid off, with less than a minute left in the game, Darryl Bromley lifted the puck over a sprawled Teeswater goalie, on a pass from Jeff Cowan and Mark Wilson. This tied the game 3 to 3 and forced a 10-minute overtime period. The overtime period saw both teams battling it out with chances missed at both ends. No goals were scored and the game remained tied, giving each team one point in the series. The first team to get four points, wins the series and will play Clifford next. The next game is in Teeswater at 12 noon next Saturday, Feb. 18. This is hockey at its best, with both teams happy with their effort. 6-2 win, with the two stars again sharing all the scoring. Pete Irwin started the scoring with a goal just under eight minutes into the game, then scored a second two minutes later. Bayfield came back to score a goal before Brian Sinclair scored his first with just 42 seconds left in the period. Pete Irwin came back with two more goals less than two minutes apart to give Belgrave a big lead in the second. Brian Sinclair finished off the scoring with his second goal of the game. Brussels Atoms defeat Blyth Brussels Houseleague Atoms hosted their counterparts from Blyth Feb. 4 with the visitors taking home a 2-1 win. Blyth took a first period lead that stood up until early in the third when Shane Wilson scored from Mike Dauphin and Jeff Elliott to tie the game. The tie held until Blyth scored with seven minutes left in the game for the win.
