Calvin-Brick Church holds annual meeting Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pletch spent last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Russell of Guelph. Mrs. Vincent Makas and Alicia as well as her sister Mrs. Lynne Kearns and Stephen of London 12 tables at euchre Twelve tables were in play at the Belgrave weekly euchre party on Wednesday evening at the Women’s Institute Hall. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Jack Taylor; low lady, Mrs. Leslie Vincent; most lone hands, Mrs. Wilford Caslick; lucky draw, Mrs. Bert Johnston; high man, Wilfred Walker; low man, Mrs. George Johnston (play­ ing as a man); most lone hands, Mrs. Ronald Coultes (playing as a man); lucky draw, Lome Jamieson. There will be euchre again, Wednesday, February 8, starting at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Brussels Lions donate $18,000 in 1988 Brussels Lions Club donated over $18,000 to worthy causes over the past year. Disbursement of Club funds during 1987-88 from fund raising projects included: Walton Bantam Ball team $200, Arthritis Society $200, Brussels Santa Claus Parade (*87) $325, Survival Through Friendship House $100, Brussels Public School for Musical Instru­ ments $1,200, Family & Children Services for Huron County $250, Town & Country Homemakers $200, Participation Lodge $200, Drug Awareness $100, Toronto Hospital for Sick Children $130, Cranbrook Community Hall $1,000, Lion’s Effective Speaking $60, Brussels Cubs $165, Block Parents $85, Crime Stoppers $500, Lion’s Youth Camp $200, Lions Youth Exchange $1,000, Brussels, Morris & Grey Community Centre (Zam- boni) $2,500, Lions quest (Drug Awareness) $1,062, Brussels Legion $500, Brussels Santa Claus Parade (*88) $325, Arthritis Society (‘88) $200, Seaforth Hospital Build­ ing Fund $500, Lions International Fund $100, Lions Leader Dog School, Oakville $400, C.N.I.B. $300, Wingham Hospital $100, Friendship House Goderich $200, Town & Country Homemakers $200, Easter Seals Society $3,315 (donated locally), and many other miscellaneous donations totalling over $2,400. In 1989 the Brussels Lions Club will be undertaking new fundrais­ ing activities, of which one will be Monster Bingos. The upcoming dates for these are: March 29, April 20, May 11, June 1, and July 6. Come out and try your hand at winning. The Brussels Lions an­ nual Elimination Draw will be held on Saturday, June 24, 1989. Due to lack of snow this winter the annual Polar Daize had to be cancelled. Hopefully next year we will have more snow. Rev. John G. Roberts opened the meet­ ing with prayer and Ivan Dow was appointed secretary. Copies of the financial state­ ments were distributed and dis­ cussed and showed that the con­ gregation had met its obligations, but that the givings were down from last year. The proposed budget for 1989 was discussed and accepted.
