However, with a record of 18 wins, 14 losses and two ties and two games remaining the Bulls can still finish anywhere from second to sixth place, a credit to the balanced league they play in. As in previous games against the Centennaires the Bulls jumped quickly into a lead with Nicholls scoring from Kieffer and Talsma at the 18 second mark. The Bulls increased their lead to 3-0 when Campbell scored unassisted at 11:06 and combined with Strome to set up Kinahan 33 seconds later. As is becoming a Bulls trade mark the Juniors gave up a goal with eight seconds remaining in the period and four minutes into the second found themselves in a tie Pee Wees defeat Seaforth The deciding game of the first round of playoffs between Brussels and Seaforth was held on Feb. 4 at the Seaforth arena, with Brussels winning 3-2. A Strome shorthanded goal was matched by a Seaforth goal midway through the period before Strome scored on the powerplay on passes from Rutledge and Vincent for a 5-4 lead after 40 minutes. The Bulls blew the game open in the third as Nicholls fired two for the hat-trick, Campbell and Kina han both scored their second of the night and Strome notched his third of the game. The coaching staff of Coulter/ Nichol did some line juggling for the game much to the chagrin of a few parents, but despite com plaints will use the new lines into the playoffs, in order to get more balanced scoring and a better ‘Team’ effort. The Bulls finish their schedule this weekend, travelling to Welles ley Friday night and playing at home Sunday at 2 p.m. against the Tavistock Braves. Into the second period Brussels kept going with Matt Lee scoring, assisted by Greg Fritz. Three minutes later at 10:25 Ryan Finch scored with assists from Brett Clarkson and Tim Machan. In the final period Seaforth scored a goal in the last five minutes of play. It was a close game till the end but Brussels held on for a victory. Brent Robinson and Corey Mor an scored two goals each. With being short three players and some of the rest of the team not feeling 100 per cent it was not all that bad an effort. Hope for better speed and health next game. The final score was Belgrave 4, Goderich 3. in the third but just 31 seconds later Trevor Machan scored an unassisted goal to tie the game. With 6:56 left in the game Howick scored again. David Lewington scored from Trevor Machan to send the game into overtime. Randy Beuermann’s second goal in the game from Mike Dauphin at 4:50 of the overtime period gave Brussels the victory in the game and the series. Blyth Atoms BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Atoms completed a two game sweep of Huron Park last week in a first round WO A A match up. The line of McNichol, Arthur and Rutledge provided the offensive power with 18 scoring points in an impressive 11-2 romp in game one at Blyth on February 1. Jason Rutledge dented the twine four times as well as chipping in with two assists. Brian McNichol netted two goals but, more impressively, showed off his playmaking abilities with an incredible five assists. Left winger Scott Arthur had his best offensive output of the season as he counted two goals and three as sists. Blyth’s other line also contri buted to the scoring assault as Henry Bos scored two goals and one assist, Ryan Chamney scored one goal and one assist while Christopher Howson counted three assists. Rob Johnston notched an impressive trio of assists while Brad Anderson chipped in with one. After spotting the opposition an early 2-1 lead the whole Atom Brussels Atoms ousted by Drayton After defeating Howick in the first round of their OMHA playoffs, Brussels Atoms moved on to play a hot Drayton team Friday night. Playing on their home ice the Brussels team came back to tie the score early in the second after Drayton had taken a 1-0 first period lead. Randy Beuermann scored the goal with Jamie Smith getting the assist. Drayton took the lead again four minutes later and added to the lead midway through the third. David Lewington drew Brussels closer with only 34 seconds left in the game on an assist from Trevor Machan but any thoughts of a last minute miracle were dashed when Drayton scored with just 21 seconds left. That proved to be as close as the series got because when Brussels travelled to Drayton Sunday, Brus sels just couldn’t put the puck in the net. Drayton scored one in each of the first and second periods, then blew the game open with five goals in the third for a 7-0 win to clinch the series. Due to space limitations some sports stories had to be held for next week. 10% OFF ALL PARTS ‘TIL FEB. 27, 1989.
