Phone 523-4360 UCW plans for Day of Prayer Burns U.C.W. meeting was held Wednesday, February 1 at the home of Clara Riley with 15 members and four visitors present. The meeting opened with two favourite hymns “Beneath the Cross of Jesus” and “Just as I am”, with Barbara Hodgins on the guitar. Clara then led in prayer. Kay Konarski had the scripture taken from the first chapter of John, followed by a reading from Beth Knox, a New Year’s Prayer. The hymn “What a Friend we have in Jesus” was sung. Clara had a reading “God Does Love You”. The “Healing Song” was sung by Barbara Hodgins. The Lord’s Pray­ er was repeated in unison, then Renee Snell took over the business part of the meeting. Roll call was answered by bible verse and the paying of member­ ship dues. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and Margaret Taylor gave the treasur­ er’s report. Jean Scott is to write a thank you note to Mr. and Mrs. Brunkard for the delicious turkey dinner they served the group on December 9. Also a sympathy card is to be sent to Ramona Jamieson in the death of her brother-in-law. The group is invited to the World Day of Prayer service on Friday, March 3 in Wesley Willis Church, Clinton and after the service to Gladys and Ida Leipers for the March meeting. Collection was taken. The meeting closed with prayer. Lunch was served by Clara’s group. The annual meeting of Londes­ boro United Church was held on Tuesday evening, Jan. 31 at the Church. It opened with pot luck dessert at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Snihur opened the meeting with prayer. Bob Trick was chair­ person and Brenda Radford was secretary for this annual meeting. Clara Riley made the motion that the agenda be adopted as read. Adherents were allowed to vote on motion of Karen Snihur and Edna Reid. Brenda Radford read minutes of 1988 Congregational meeting. Ed and Neil Salverda moved all members of nominating committee be accepted as listed. As of now adherents of our Church who pass Shuffleboard results At shuffleboard on Wednesday evening, February 1 there were 14 people present at Hullett Central School. High lady was Elizabeth Lawson, high man, Les Reid. away during the year be listed as well as members. The group com­ mittee reports were all approved as printed. Jean Fox gave the treasur­ er’s report for the year 1988. Garnet Wright and Bert Lyon moved this report be accepted. Jim Jamieson was named as auditor to take Trudy Pollard’s place for 1989. Clara Riley moved 1989 budget be accepted as printed. No amount was set for M. and S. Fund. A vote of thanks was given to treasurer Londesboro Church news On Sunday, February 5, the greeters at Londesboro United Church were Bruce and Harriet Shillinglaw. Ushers were Gerrit Wilts, Bill Bromley, John Hoggart and Cliff Saundercock. A candle lighter and snuffer were donated by Jack and Marion Snell and they were dedicated in loving memory of their grand­ daughter Amy Bosman. Jean Fox. Gordon Shobbrook gave Dave and Caron a vote of thanks for their work in 1988. Bob Trick thanked everyone for their help in 1988 to keep the Church in good standing. The hymn “Grace and Glory” was sung. Rev. Snihur closed the meeting with prayer. 1988 resident members were 358; non-resident members, 134; Total 492. There were seven baptisms, five deaths, five marriages, and two members removed by transfer. Huronview Fellowship Time is Feb. 16 at 2:30 p.m. Lenton services begin next Sunday. Senior Youth Group meets Thursday, Feb. 9 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. at the Curling Rink at Vanastra. Choir practice is Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 12 at 10:30 a.m. The sermon topic was “The Healing at the Pool of Bethseda.” Hullett Central School boys’ team won the Central Huron Volleyball tournament held in Clinton on Saturday. Phone 887-6677 Wl plans dessert euchre Wl meets Wednesday The February meeting of Londesboro W.I. will be held on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Londesboro Hall. Guest speaker will be Mary Lou Murray from Lady Diana Nursery in Vana- stra. Roll call is stand up and recite a nursery rhyme. Dessert, tea or coffee will be served at 7 p.m. After enjoying the many desserts, euchre will be played upstairs with prizes given out by the committee in charge. Come out and enjoy a social evening, bring a friend. Next week, Feb. 15 is the monthly luncheon served by the Institute members in the hall. The menu fcr this luncheon is to be fresh pork roast, potatoes, corn, cabbage salad, relish and breads accompanied by dessert and tea. Everyone is welcome, starts 11:30 a.m. The February meeting of the W.I. is cancelled for this month. About people Mr. and Mrs. Roily Achilles spent Sunday, Jan. 29 with Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Achilles and family on the occasion of Jerry’s birthday. Ruth Thamer accompanied Annie Reid to Jean Scott’s near Londesboro last Tuesday where they were dinner guests. Margaret Taylor also visited at the same home. 10 tables at euchre On Friday evening, February 3 there were 10 tables of euchre. Winners were: ladies’ high, Ha­ zel Reid; ladies’ lone hands, Mar­ garet Taylor; ladies’ low, Grace Cartwright, Auburn; men’s high, John Pollard; men’s lone hands, Lome Hunking; men’s low, Lome Dale. Former resident dies Word was received of the pass­ ing in Toronto in her 103rd year, a former Londesboro resident, Mary Grierson.
