Phone 526-7589 Auburn church Rev. Dave Snihur conducted the morning service at Knox United Church, Auburn and Nancy Park was organist. Call to Worship was read alternately. A trio Jack Middlekamp, Elliott Lapp and Nancy Park sang “It is well with my Soul’’. Children’s song was “He’s got the whole world in His hands’’, and Rev. Snihur told their story. The hymn “When morning guilds the skies” was sung. Rev. Snihur gave the Prayer of Approach and the Nicene Creed was read in unison. The hymn “More about Jesus” was sung. Certificates were given to Mrs. R. Koopmans and Mrs. E. Lapp for reading all of the New Testament. Rev. Snihur read scrip­ ture from Revelation and John followed by prayer chorus, “Breath on me breath of God”. The ministers’ sermon was entit­ led “The Healing at the Pool of Bethseda”. The offering was re­ ceived by Greg Park and Allan Webster followed by offering re­ sponse, “We Give Thee but Thine 7 tables at Auburn euchre There were seven tables in play at the euchre party held Tuesday evening, January 31 in the Com­ munity Hall. Winners were: high lady, Mary Shobbrook; low lady, Mona Norris; high man, Glen Jacklin; low man, Marion Haggitt (playing as a man); novelty, Tina Empey. Euchre parties are held every Tuesday night at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Walkerburn Club meets On Tuesday, January 31 the Walkerburn Club met at Mrs. I. Moore’s home. The president Mrs. Len Archambault opened the meet­ ing with prayer followed by a poem “Life After Forty”. The secretary read the report and letters received. Mrs. Archam­ bault had received a cheque from Zehrs for receipts turned in. Mrs. R. Archambault gave the treasur­ er’s report. Blocks for a quilt were handed in to Mrs. J. Verwey but more are needed. The draw donat­ ed by Mrs. Verwey was won by Mrs. E. Lapp. Mrs. Tom Cunningham will host the February meeting. The lunch committee will be Mrs. Cunning­ ham and Mrs. Moore and the program in charge of Mrs. H. Hunking and Mrs. J. Huizinga. Mrs. Cunningham gave two in­ spiring readings “Success” and “Blessings”. A penny sale follow­ ed this and was enjoyed. Two January contests were played and won by Mrs. E. Lapp and Mrs. D. Collins. Lunch was served by Mrs. J. Verwey and Mrs. Roy Daer. Then a surprise birthday cake appeared for Mrs. Daer’s 80th birthday which will be shortly and for Mrs. Moore’s birthday on that day. The candles were blown out and Happy Birthday sung and the two birth­ days celebrated to close an enjoy­ able afternoon. People Sympathy is extended to Marilyn and Peter Verbeek and family on the death of her father Mr. Chambers of Elmira. Word was received of the death of Rev. Roberts of Copper Cliff this past week, a former minister of the Knox United Church, Auburn. news Own”. The hymn “When the Roll is called up yonder” was sung. Rev. Snihur pronounced the Bene­ diction and reponse “Go Now In Peace”, ended the service. The annual meeting of Knox United Church was held on January 30. The congregation discussed plans for the future years because of the decision of Rev. Snihur to take a leave from the ministry in the near future. It was decided that a fact-finding committee would find some answers about the manse ownership and a move toward a two-point charge. A prayer was said in memoriam for those who passed away this past year. Reports were received, discuss­ ed and accepted. It was moved that we go along with the board’s suggestion to have no goal for M & S funds for the congregation in protest to the current rulings of the General Church Council. It was left to the trustees to look into our insurance coverage on the build­ ings and contents. A new slate of officers was brought in by the nomination committee and accept­ ed. A motion was made to continue the arrangement this year with Londesboro United Church. A gra­ cious thank you was extended to Rev. Snihur for his pastoral care this past year.
