There were plenty of hands to make light work of the Belgrave Quilters third-prize winning entry in the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food’s Centennial Quilt Contest. Knox holds annual meeting 11 tables at Belgrave euchre Eleven tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave on January 25. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Stuart Chamney; low lady, Mrs. Leslie Vincent; novelty lady, Mrs. Jean Pattison; lucky table, Mrs. Gordon Bosman, Mrs. Wilford Caslick; high man, John King; low man, George Johnston; novelty man, Lloyd Appleby; lucky table, George Carter, Lewis Stonehouse. There will be euchre again Wednesday, February 1 starting at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. People Wayne Minick and Jenny of Kitchener spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Cousins of Woodstock and Mrs. Rick Ball, Matthew and Alicia of Hanover spent the weekend with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Ross Ander­ son. Mr. and Mrs. Greg Roy of Sudbury and Mr. and Mrs. Cloyne Michel of Gorrie visited on Satur­ day with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Johnston. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Dunbar of Stratford spent a couple of days this past week with his mother Mrs. Joe Dunbar. Mr. and Mrs. George Michie spent a few days last week with Dr. and Mrs. Donald Whitfield and family of Sault Ste. Marie. Mr. Wayne Vincent of Milton called on his parents Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Vincent on Thursday, Janu­ ary 26. Mrs. William Coultes, Mrs. Gor­ don Bosman, Mrs. Ross Anderson, Mrs. Les Shaw, and Mrs. Ross Higgins attended the annual meet­ ing of Huron-Perth Presbyterial U.C.W. at Victoria Street United Church, Goderich on Monday, January 23. Neighbours and friends of this community extend sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. George McGee and families in the loss of a dear sister and aunt Mrs. Helen Hunt who passed away in London on Sunday, January 22. Rev. John G. Roberts opened the meeting with prayer and the ap­ pointed secretary, Murray Scott read the minutes of the last annual meeting. Lewis Stonehouse, the treasurer presented the financial statement for 1988 and reported a very successful year in the General Fund and Mission and Service Fund. He expressed thanks to the members for their support and moved the adoption of the report. The auditors report was given by Lome Campbell who stated all books were in order and thanked Lewis for his excellent work. Lome Campbell and George Procter were re-elected as auditors for another year. Mrs. Gordon Bosman presented the 1989 bud­ get. In other financial business the Mission and Service Fund target was set. The meeting instructed the secretary to write Wayne Hopper to thank him for removing snow at the Church. New members of the Session to retire in 1991 are: Mrs. George Johnston and Gordon Bosman. Leslie Vincent was elected as Trustee to retire in 1992. Mrs. Glenn Coultes was renam­ ed to the Christian Education Committee to retire in 1990. Carol Hopper, Dianne Black, Sharon Kellar, Ben Bames, Mark Coultes, Jeff and David McKee were ap­ pointed as additional offering ste­ wards and ushers. Mrs. Ruth Gordon, School Superintendent, finances in good shape more teachers is needed. George Michie reported for the United Church Observer and it was agreed that the every-member­ family plan be continued with George in charge of the list of receivers. The motion carried that a Country Fayre be held June 24, 1989. George Procter expressed thanks to Rev. and Mrs. John G. Roberts for their leadership, not only this year, but also for their faithfulness over the years since coming to Belgrave from Wales in 1967. Rev. Roberts, who will retire in June, replied with appreciation to the congregation for their support over the years. Mrs. Dorothy Logan expressed thanks to Mrs. Elizabeth Procter, organist and choir, leader and to the choirs for the many hours of leadership and a job well done.
