Belgrave Tykes win 2 games. Novices swamp Goderich
The first game for the Belgrave
Tykes was hosted by Wingham in
the Belgrave arena. Peter Irwin
scored once in the first and again
early in the second period before
Wingham responded.
Belgrave’s Matthew Beck had
two shots ring off Wingham’s goal
post before Peter Irwin scored with
two minutes play in the second
period.
Belgrave’s Brian Sinclair scored
early in the third period with Peter
Irwin netting two more. With three
seconds left in the third period,
Brian Sinclair assisted by Peter
Irwin beat Wingham’s goalie once
more for a 7-1 win. The Belgrave
team except goalie Tom Pfieffer
had an opportunity to play various
positions.
BELGRAVE 5 - BLYTH 3
Nine-thirty, Saturday morning
saw the Blyth Tykes at Belgrave.
Blyth scored one unanswered goal
in the first period.
Peter Irwin scored twice early in
the second period for Belgrave.
Brian Sinclair assisted by speedster
Justin Campbell scored again for
the home team. With seven min
utes to play in the second period
Blyth’s Jamie Black skated by
cousin Justin Black to score.
Peter Irwin scored two more for
Belgrave with Blyth scoring once in
the third period. Belgrave’s de
fenseman Brian Sinclair played his
strongest game of the season. He
made several nice passes and
rushes up the ice. These two evenly
matched teams had to play hard to
keep their hands and toes warm in
the frosty Belgrave arena. The final
score was Belgrave 5, Blyth 3.
NOVICES
January 21 saw the Belgrave
Novice team play host to Goderich.
Belgrave tallied five in the first
period with David McBurney scor
ing twice assisted once by Jennifer
Black. Brian Sinclair netted one,
assisted by Jennifer Black. Ryan
Cook assisted, by Luke Lockridge
scored, once with Vaughn Vincent
getting his first goal of the season.
Belgrave’s Jennifer Black got
her first-ever goal in the second
period assisted by Jeremy Camp
bell and David McBurney. One
minute later David McBurney scor
ed followed seconds later by Jenni
fer Black who was assisted by
David McBurney and Brian Sin
clair. With five minutes to play in
the second period, Wayne Fenton
assisted by Ryan Cook scored for
Belgrave. One minute later God
erich scored their only goal of the
game. The third period saw Wayne
Fenton score followed 48 seconds
later by Luke Lockridge. Two
minutes later Brian Sinclair scored
again, assisted by Wayne Fenton.
With six minutes left in the
game, defenseman Luke Lockridge
scored for Belgrave. Wayne Fenton
finished Belgrave scoring with his
third goal for the hat-trick.
Belgrave’s goal Tom Pfieffer had
a hard time keeping warm in goal
as fellow team-mates controlled the
play throughout the game. The
final score was Belgrave 14,
Goderich 1.
Cato, a Roman statesman, who
was born in the third century B.C.,
appears to have thought highly of
cabbage. He advised those who
dined a lot to eat cabbage seasoned
with vinegar, before dinner, adding
“It will make you feel as if you had
not eaten, and you can drink as
much as you like.’’
