Phone 887-9487 Lack of need stops non-profit housing plan On Tuesday, January 17, the Belgrave Women’s Institute held a most successful pot luck luncheon with Mrs. James Hunter and Mrs. Glenn Coultes as convenors. After a short sing-song, the afternoon was spent playing shoot. High prizes went to Ross Taylor and Mrs. Edgar Wightman. Low prizes went to Wilfred Walker and Mrs. Leslie Vincent. On Tuesday, February 7, another pot luck lunch will be convened by Mrs. Clarence Hanna and everyone is invited. A short business meeting follow­ ed the afternoon’s activities. Mrs. Glen Coultes read the minutes from three previous meetings. As the result from the survey which has been taken, it was agreed that the number of people interested now does not warrant Local couples attend dance 'camp out' On January 20 at Florence and Norman Donna and Les Shaw, Ross Higgins, attended a special “Camp Out’’ dance hosted by the Huron Happy Hearts Round Dance Club at the Clinton Public School. Leaders Lois and Edward Wise, Clinton, planned a program of dance pieces especially for the evening, “Springtime in the Rock­ ies’’, “Cheating Heart’’, “Waltz Across Texas’’, “Desert Blues’’ and a little extra, Lois called a square dance. The decorating committee set up the site, sleeping bags, kettle on the fire (no smoke), marshmallows and water jugs. A lunch of hot dogs and all the trimmings was enjoyed around the fire and to top it off a delicious chocolate cake to cele­ brate president Ross Leakey’s 39th birthday. Happy Birthday was sung and Ross blew out the candles. A campfire story was told by Gordon Shobbrook and Mrs. Bill Cox led a sing song. A get well card was signed for Mrs. Harvey Bogie, Goderich. Peter and Sybil Chandler, Ilderton will be guest round dance leader one evening in February and Les Shaw will play tapes one evening while Lois and Edward are on holidays. The club is hosting the April South Western Ontario Square and Round Dance Association at Varna. Members attended from God­ erich, Exeter, Bayfield, St. Joseph, Londesboro, Belgrave and Clinton. Wingham Dept.'s fire calls up in '88 Calls answered by the Wingham Area Fire Department in 1988 were up sharply over those in the two previous years, Chief Harley Gaunt told members of the Wingham and Area Fire Board at its regular January meeting. Chief Gaunt said that the depart­ ment had answered a total of 95 calls requiring 173 hours of man­ power and equipment use in 1988, up from the 70 calls and 115 hours they had covered in 1987 and 75 calls for a total of 94 hours in 1986. Of the five member municipali­ ties covered by the fire board, firemen answered eight calls to Morris Township for a total of 25 hours in 1988; six calls for 10 hours in East Wawanosh; 30 calls result­ ing in 48 hours work in Turnberry; 29 calls for 63 hours in Turnberry; and 17 calls for a total of 22 hours in Wingham. Also included in the overall total for 1988 were three mutual aid calls for three hours, plus two motor vehicle assistance calls for two hours. pro-proceeding further with the posed project at the present time. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Albert Cook; low lady, Mrs. Ronnie Coultes; most lone hands, Mrs. Cliff Johnston; novelty, Mrs. Mar­ garet Robertson; high man, Wil- ford Caslick; low man, Herb Clay­ ton; most lone hands, Wilfred Walker; novelty - Mrs. Leslie Vincent (playing as a man). There will be euchre again Wednesday, January 25 starting at 8 p.m. \\ ’\a.9? i L*” People around Belgrave Miss Marlene Walsh of Kitchen­ er was a Saturday night visitor with her aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Wightman. She also visited with others in the village. Visiting at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Procter, Belgrave on Thursday, were Mrs. Howard Zett- ler, Sherry, Amanda and Alicia of RR 4, Walkerton. Sunday visitors at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Procter were Mar­ jorie Procter and Philip Stopforth of London. All visited with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Procter, Karen and Kevin of RR 5, Brussels. Also visiting at the same home were Mr. and Mrs. Larry Mayberry, Marilyn, Kimberly and Darryl of Londes- boro. The occasion was Kevin’s 13th birthday. Girls that are age 11 by January 1, 1989, who would like to join the 4-H, should contact Isabel Camp­ bell or Aryln Montgomery by January 31 so that your books can be picked up. The meetings will be held in the Belgrave W.I. Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse visited with their sister-in-law Mrs. Viola Stonehouse of London Thurs­ day, January 19. Mr. and Mrs. Lome Jamieson of Wingham and Mr. and Mrs. Clar­ ence Hanna attended the funeral of Orval Harrison of Listowel at the French Funeral Home, Listowel on Tuesday afternoon, January 17. nounced that June 1989 will be Women’s Institute month. There will be a conference in Southwestern Ontario on April 8, 9, and 10, and the topic will be “Women in Development.’’ Mem­ bers of the W.I. are to entertain at a birthday party at Brookhaven Nursing Home on Wednesday, Jnuary 25 at 2 p.m. There is a seminar on Human Relations for the Home Team on February 8. Call the O.M.A.F. office in Clinton for details. Tentative plans havb been made to tour the Bruce Nuclear Plant in May.
