The 1989 executive of the Huron County Junior Farmers was inducted during the traditional Candlelight Ceremony following the organization's annual Awards Presentation and Banquet in Clinton on Saturday. Livestock Tour excellent opportunity for farmers The Livestock Management Tour, sponsored by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture & Food, will be held in the Kemptville-Ottawa area on March 6 - 10, 1989. The tour is an opportunity for 90 young farmers from across Ontario to visit approximately 20 different livestock operations in Renfrew, Lanark, Ottawa-Carleton and Gren­ ville Counties toobserve and discuss various management practices. Delegateswill also evaluate live­ stock at these locations, as well as visit a number of livestock/agricul- tural businesses. undoubtedly one of the best oppor­ tunities for young farmers or future farmers to experience Ontario’s livestock industry. Videos now available on Hog producers energy seminar coming up This ventilation seminar is pre­ sented in co-operation with the Agricultural Energy Centre, Agri- cultrual Engineering Services and the Agricultural Section of Ontario Hydro. Such topic areas as choosing equipment, heat exchangers, sizing of equipment and efficiency of utilization will be addressed. This seminar will be held on Friday, January 13, 1989 in the Clinton O.M.A.F. boardroom. The cost will be $8.00/person which includes a hot meal at lunch. A panel of farm- ers/farm workers will present their ideas on interviewing prospective employees, putting together incen­ tive packages, benefits, motivation, good communications and more. Heather Ross, Barrister and Solicitor with the firm of Ross & Ross, Goderich, specializes in Fam­ ily and Chriminal Law. The question of how the new Family Law Reform Act affects the family farm will be the focus of this session. Heather will also address other legal issues concerning the farm family such as contracts, wills, and power of attorney, to name a few. Dr. Robinson will use his after­ noon session to focus on one of the topics touched on in the morning keynote address. Rev. Roger McComb, an Anglican Priest and High School Teacher at Ingersoll District Collegiate and Vocational Institute, will present an interesting viewpoint on the “Keys for a Successful Marriage Partner­ ship”. Rev. McComb has also done an extensive amount of work with the Un ited Church. His experiences with conferences on Communication and Family Orientation will provide an interesting viewpoint for this topic. His ideas will be of special interest to the husband and wife farm team. Participants to the Livestock Management Tour must: a) be at least 18 years of age (suggested age range of delegates is 18-35) b) be actively involved or interest­ ed in the day to day operation of a farm c) be willing to learn farm management practices and new methods of evaluating livestock The registration fee for this five-day program is $200. Registra­ tion deadline is January 27 at the Clinton OMAFOffice. The tour is Videotapes of the “Excellence in Swine Production Series” held last winter, are now available. The Huron County Pork Producers’ Association has purchased the set of eight tapes for use by producers within the county. The tapes are available at the Clinton O.M.A.F. office. There is a $10.00 deposit per tape (which will be refunded upon return of the tapes).
